Excellent book helping us see the facts of what is going on in our society, and distilling complicated concepts down to a level that all of us can understand. Every parent should read this and be ready to be surprised. Many of us have been duped in ways that we never expected. As the father of two young adults, I wish I had read this 15 years ago. Most of what she teaches, we practiced anyway…but not all. As I look around, it seems that no one understands what is happening to our kids. This book will help!

I had pretty low expectations about this book before, listening, due to my preconceived notions about the author. I expected him to embellish the founder’s religious views, and character to present him how he would like us to see him. I was surprised and very impressed with how well he establishes context for every defense of the lies told about Thomas Jefferson. You don’t need to trust his opinion, he gives you facts (in context) that allow you to make your own judgment. Excellent job Mr. Barton!

This is a fantastic book on how God forgives sinners, and how Christians should do the same. The author does an excellent job of showing us the unintended consequences of ostracizing those who sin publicly and/or grievously. We all know there are particular sins that are harder to address in the church…most of them being of sexual nature. This book helps equip the church in having empathy for both the offender and those who have been offended. It also serves as a guidebook to restoring those people who must be disciplined. As the author says however, the guidebook was with us all along. This book points back to the authoritative guide book…the Bible.

What an excellent book on the will of God, from a biblical point of view! I listened to this book while reading a much longer book, “Decision Making and the Will of God.“ In a much shorter format, Kevin de Young does an excellent job of handling the subject and distilling the main principles of this topic in a short and readable version. I particularly was looking for a quicker read that I could recommend to others…my daughter in particular. This was the one. Highly recommended!

It is a good book with funny and inspiring stories that encourage all of us to do the things we ought to be doing already. The author encourages us to engage more, and shows us the fruit of that engagement. After reading it, I find myself wanting to get more involved with people and to do the things I had only thought about before. What I don’t like about the book however is that the author makes sweeping statements about who God is and what he wants us to do with our lives. Unfortunately, those statements often are unbiblical. I would encourage anyone to read it, but with caution. I would simply read with great discernment, and be careful not to take to heart the author’s statements like, “That’s how God sees us,” or “That’s what Jesus meant when he...” The author isn’t always mistaken on those points, but he often is. That said, the illustrations he uses to make those statements come to life are often good, and should be followed more often.
