Historia
Levitt and co-author Stephen J. Dubner show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives: how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing. In Freakonomics, they explore the hidden side of...well, everything. The inner working of a crack gang...the truth about real-estate agents...the secrets of the Klu Klux Klan. What unites all these stories is a belief that the modern world is even more intriguing than we think. All it takes is a new way of looking, and Freakonomics will redefine the way we view the modern world.

Nerd candy!
Revisado: 09-17-11
Interesting view of the world from a non politically correct, statistition's point of view. If you like to think for yourself and learn new points of view, this book is without peer. OK, 29 pages of the frequency with which minorities name their kids wierd names is boring, but other areas are great. I finally understand regression analysis and why its important. If you are a new mom, getting ready to quit your job for the baby READ THIS. Enjoy........

Exceedingly interesting but dump the last third.

This book is Washington from pre-birth to post death and everything in between. It is definitely one of my favorite books ever, and one of my first American history listens. I won't spend any time telling you how great Washington was, he was obviously that. It's beyond interesting to hear how he interacted with and inspired his contemporaries. It was also interesting how individuals like Hamilton and John Jay made made gigantic contributions to our Contry's formation. It was also revealing how he had American adversaries later in life, such as Jefferson. The picture the book paints of Washington the man is fantastic too. He really comes to life, and is revealed to be a man's man, athlete, pioneer, and consumate politition. I read this book because one day not long ago my 12 year old told me that she had heard Washington was "a racist". I responded to her that I did not know, but I would find out. Turns out he was one of the most enlighted slave owners of his generation (and beyond). Did he own slaves, yes. But he also treated them better than most, and freed them after his death. In the era, that was the equivalent of giving away your money. The narrator is great, the vocabulary is ancient, but fun, but the book is far too long. I listened to every minute of the 42 hours, and would tell you that, aside from the French revolution and section involving his death, the last third of the book (after he exits the presidency) is not satisfying. Give it a try. You will grow to love your first president.

Watch CNBC for a couple hours instead. This might have been news 20 years ago, but come on, stuff like don't pay high commission broker because he does not have your best interest at heart. Really? Diversify and rebalance your portfolio. What a turd.

It is the most famous military installation in the world. And it doesn't exist. Located a mere s75 miles outside of Las Vegas in Nevada's desert, the base has never been acknowledged by the US government - but Area 51 has captivated imaginations for decades. Annie Jacobsen had exclusive access to 19 men who served the base proudly and secretly for decades and are now aged 75-92, and unprecedented access to 55 additional military and intelligence personnel, scientists, pilots, and engineers linked to the secret base, 32 of whom lived and worked there for extended periods.

Really Good. Especially interesting Nuclear part
Revisado: 06-27-11
Very interesting listen about the stealth technology, Nazi rocket scientists, the cold war, and some little green men thrown in for good luck. The personal stories about the early test pilots, both the heros that risked their lives to keep us safe to the fools that flew through the middle of mushroom clouds just to record the information, are really interesting. The book is way too long, so feel free to skip. If you are prone to fearing government this book will scare you to your knees. The secrets that not even presidents could know are unbelievable. If you want to know more about the insanity of nucs, and the people who blow them up just to record their effects, you must read this. Approximately 3,000 nuc bombs set off, some of which were so powerful they evaporated entire islands! 30 years of repeated radiation dispersals. If you live in Nevada, run! Also, interesting behind the scenes info about the Cuban misle crisis, and the one man who's clear thinking probably saved mankind from a bitter nuclear end. Amazing! My take away form this book is that in Governments' efforts to protect us, they feel we are actually all expendable. Oh, also love the author's voice. Really nice.
