Historia
'Look after the dead,' said the priests, 'and the dead will look after you.' Wise words in all probability, but a tall order when, like Teppic, you have just become the pharaoh of a small and penniless country rather earlier than expected, and your treasury is unlikely to stretch to the building of a monumental pyramid to honour your dead father. He'd had the best education money could buy of course, but unfortunately the syllabus at the Assassin's Guild in Ankh-Morpork did not cover running a kingdom and basic financial acumen....

Great Book; Fantastic Reading
Revisado: 03-02-24
Pyramids has always been one of my favorite Discworld books, but Alfred Enoch's narration takes it to an incredible new level. Every character has its own unique voice. Every passage and page is read with wit, emotion and the wonder that reflects Pratchett's work. I hope everyone enjoys this audio book as much as I did.

Another Fantastic Performance
Revisado: 11-01-23
Indira Varma gives another fantastic performance in Terry' Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters. Every character has a unique and recognizable voice. And the voices match the character's personalities incredibly well, bringing each to vivid life. Honestly I feel like my praise of Ms. Varma's considerable talents falls short of the accolades they so richly deserve.
As for the story itself, it like all of Pratchett's novels, are incredibly fun, original, witty and accessible to all ages and readers (I listened with my 8 year old daughter and she loved it). I will say that whether you are either passing familiar with Shakespeare's works or a huge fan (or scholar) of Shakespeare that you will find many more easter eggs in the storytelling than some one who is not.

Simply Excellent
Revisado: 05-23-23
As with all Terry Pratchett books, there is nothing derivative about the plot or characters. The reader (or in this case the listener) is along for a ride where they may think they know where it is going only to find themselves in uncharted territory.
Pratchett's creativity and ingenuity as a writer aside, the reading of this novel raises the bar on narrative performance. To say Indira Varma does a fantastic job reading Pratchett's work is a gross understatement. She gives an incredibly dynamic reading bringing the story to life and holding the listener's interest and attention effortlessly. Furthermore she provides each character with their own unique voice that fits there personality perfectly.
It's an amazingly talented performance for a great book. I'm looking forward to listening to her perform the rest of the Witches' Discworld novels.

Funny, Genuine and Incredibly Relatable
Revisado: 03-05-22
Billy Crystal gives a fantastic performance of his funny and thoughtful memoir. He is an amazing storyteller. As one can always expect, he will make you laugh out loud with anecdotes about his life, his career and his charmingly self-deprecating humor. But what's more, he will warm your heart while reminscing affectionately about his family and friends. Personally, this is the kind of book I needed right now. It brought me out of seemingly interminable dreariness born of the pandemic, the recent, frightening instability of the world and my own anxiety.

With his trademark mirth and boundless charisma, actor Nick Offerman brought the loveable shenanigans of Twain's adolescent hero to life in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Now, in yet another virtuosic performance, the actor proves that despite being separated by a span of over a century, his connection to the author and his work is undeniable and that theirs is a timeless collaboration that should not be missed.

Fantastic Reading
Revisado: 08-04-21
Mr. Offerman's performance is outstanding. This book is obviously read by a man who loves the book and went dedicated his reading to ensure every word was delivered for the enjoyment of the audience. He understands the material; the comedy, the drama, the satire. His enthusiasm and admiration of Twain's work is contagious. He nails every phrase and passage with perfect understanding of how it should be delivered.
I am currently listening to his performance of Tom Sawyer and it is every bit as good. I hope he has the opportunity to read more selections of Twain's bibliography. Finger crossed for Huckleberry Finn.
As for the story itself it is probably my favorite of Twain's works; elements of satire, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, love and loss mix seamlessly in this tale. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Historia
Star of stage, film, and television Alan Cumming delivers a virtuoso performance playing every role in the National Theatre of Scotland's bold presentation of Shakespeare's chilling tale of desire, ambition, and the supernatural. This radical reimagining of one of Shakespeare's most deeply psychological plays is set in a psychiatric unit in which Cumming is the lone patient. Channeling the story of Macbeth, he is inhabited in turn by each of the characters of the drama, including some of Shakespeare's most complex and troubled creations.

I have always been a big fan of Alan Cumming. he does a good job here. My only criticism is that it was often hard to tell the voices of the different characters apart. I'd love to hear an audio version of this play with a full Scottish cast supporting Mr. Cumming's lead.

Stilted, Unnatural Narration
Revisado: 06-02-21
The story itself is fantastic and well written. Wells' imagination was generations ahead of his time and this novella showcases his talent as a writer.
But I could not finish this recording. The narrator speaks in a flat, monotone voice and an awkward cadence. It's as if each word was recorded individually without context and then clumsily arranged into a sentence by the audio engineer; the experience is similar to listening to an AI give you directions on your GPS. It was unbearable to sit through.
Look for the John Banks recording of this story. His engaging performance brings the narrative to life.
