Guy's brilliant biography "fills in (all) the blanks" of the latter day reign of Elizabeth I. Well-documented facts unsentimentally paint the queen as the cunning survivor of a traumatic childhood and adolescence who emerges a strong, captivating, wily creature, one much to be admired despite her many flaws. Hard-wired for her role as a "divinely-appointed" monarch, learning to guard her heart while promoting her mystical allure, Elizabeth's story still fascinates and inspires today. Guy's impeccably-researched tale will be all too familiar to those remarkable women who, against all odds, similarly find themselves wielding power in what largely remains a man's world.

As a relatively new Wharton devotee, I was happily surprised by this novel with its lively, perfectly pitched narration. It was a welcome break from Wharton's much darker stories about shallow, materialistic, destructive New Yorkers, aristocrats and noveau riche alike, who leave so many victims in their wake. In contrast, Glimpses of the Moon left me smiling like a classic romance novel should -- a triumph of true love over the relentless, empty pursuit of money and social status -- complete with a few Shakespearean twists and a deliciously happy ending. Bravo!

Outstanding narration, gripping story with a clever Shakespearean twist, holding the listener in suspense until the very end -- this is classic Mary Stewart at her best. Loved it!

Flawless performance of this celebrated historical novel about the Civil War, so poignant in its telling of the deep and scarring pain of those who have suffered irreparable loss.

Frieda’s book, as a comprehensive (and here well-narrated) biography of this legendary queen, brings to life the brutal politics swirling behind (and within) the religious, cultural, artistic and intellectual movements of the European Renaissance. Despite her personal shortcomings, many of which she overcame by sheer force of will, Catherine de Medici’s hand in shaping the course of European history is undeniable. I am now finding the reading of the book, with its many portraits, sketches, genealogical charts, and relevant maps, helpful in recollecting the key historical events and related people mentioned in this spellbinding story.

I find this to be Charlotte Bronte’s finest work, rich with deep psychological insight into timeless affairs of the human heart, here beautifully performed.

The novel is wonderfully complex, as are many of Dostoyevsky’s, but the magic lies in Constantine Gregory’s narration and sublime interpretation of the characters. Bravo!
