Historia
2 CHILDREN FOR SALE. In 1931, near Philadelphia, ambitious reporter Ellis Reed photographs the gut-wrenching sign posted beside a pair of siblings on a farmhouse porch. With the help of newspaper secretary Lily Palmer, Ellis writes an article to accompany the photo. Capturing the hardships of American families during the Great Depression, the feature story generates national attention and Ellis's career skyrockets. But the piece also leads to consequences more devastating than he and Lily ever imagined - and it will risk everything they value to unravel the mystery and set things right.

Boring, unrealistic
Revisado: 05-14-24
The characters were unrealistic. The storyline seemed to be all over the place, and I basically didn’t care about any of the people (except, of course, for potentially mistreated children).

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Whiny, embicilic main character
Revisado: 05-09-23
I think my jaw dropped several times at the stupidity of the choices these people made. Definitely written by someone who either inhabits the lower rungs of intelligence or thinks the rest of us do. Obnoxious main character. Don't care who killed who. Can't believe this title has good reviews.

Unrealistic and constantly overexplaining
Revisado: 12-08-21
I might have been able to overlook the many unrealistic choices by the characters or the too much explanation of things that are obvious, but when she also resorted to the use of non-words (think unperfect), I was no longer able to suspend disbelief. Fast forwarded to the end to get it over with.

Historia
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Very stupid main character
Revisado: 06-13-21
I can’t enjoy a book where the characters are so stupid that they do stuff that you believe no reasonable person would ever do. It’s especially obnoxious when it’s a woman. Really ridiculous story.

Historia
Josie Bianci was killed years ago on a train during a terrorist attack. Gone forever. It’s what her sister, Kit, an ER doctor in Santa Cruz, has always believed. Yet all it takes is a few heart-wrenching seconds to upend Kit’s world. Live coverage of a club fire in Auckland has captured the image of a woman stumbling through the smoke and debris. Her resemblance to Josie is unbelievable. And unmistakable. With it comes a flood of emotions - grief, loss, and anger - that Kit finally has a chance to put to rest: by finding the sister who’s been living a lie.

Wasn’t a fan, and the narrator was strange.
Revisado: 03-26-20
I did not enjoy this book. Found it to be dragging and melodramatic. I would have hung in longer if the narrator didn’t pronounce the short "I" sound as "uh." So you don’t go up a hill, you go up a hull, etc. Super weird and distracting. In the Kiwi accent is atrocious.

Caricatures instead of characters
Revisado: 10-31-19
I know this is a popular author, and so I was surprised at the lame, unrealistic caricatures of people, rather than characters you can relate to our care about. This book had a meandering plot that failed to resolve several aspects of the storyline. It seemed like there were a dozen situations where something happened that you figured would never happen in real life. I will be avoiding this author in the future.

Historia
Mary Austin is the kind of teacher that parents adore and children wish for. Firm and compassionate, a guiding light in their lives, she would do anything to protect her students. But that loyalty is tested when the school's sadistic bully is found dead on campus and suspicion falls on six children in her class, none willing to talk, point the finger, or reveal the killer. Faced with this, Mary finds herself confronted with dark memories from her own childhood.

Story dominated by most unlikable character
Revisado: 10-16-18
The ending was predictable. The main character was very annoying. The narration was obnoxious. I started to fast forward through the silly internal dialog portions. I'm surprised there is an audience for this author.

Narrator Almost Ruins this Great Story for Me
Revisado: 05-21-12
Where does An Echo in the Darkness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love this trilogy, and I'm on my third "reading," this time in audio book format. Mr. Ferrone's dramatic delivery is fine, but his pronunciation of the main character's name had more East Coast mobster flavor to it than citizen of ancient Rome, among other proper names, and it was very annoying, so I would not recommend the book in audio format.
