Historia
In this riveting work of narrative nonfiction, Jonathan Darman tells the story of two giants of American politics, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan, and shows how, from 1963 to 1966, these two men—the same age, and driven by the same heroic ambitions—changed American politics forever.

Really put me in that moment in time
Revisado: 06-15-24
Made it exciting to go back and revisit this crucial moment in American politics. It told me some truths I’d always suspected but didn’t have the knowledge of. And gave me some crucial insight into political cycles and some of the challenges our country is facing today.

Historia
Werner Herzog was born in September 1942 in Munich, Germany, at a turning point in the Second World War. Soon Germany would be defeated and a new world would have to be made out the rubble and horrors of the war. Fleeing the Allied bombing raids, Herzog’s mother took him and his older brother to a remote, rustic part of Bavaria where he would spend much of his childhood hungry, without running water, in deep poverty. It was there, as the new postwar order was emerging, that one of the most visionary filmmakers of the next seven decades was formed.

What a wild ride!!!!
Revisado: 02-23-24
Completely unexpected and I never knew where it was going from one moment to the next. A captivating ride that gives me all the insights and answers my questions about Herzog but on his terms.

When it was finally released, Heaven's Gate failed so completely with reviewers and at the box office that it put legendary studio United Artists out of business and marked the end of Hollywood's auteur era. Or so the conventional wisdom goes. Charles Elton delves deeply into the making and aftermath of the movie and presents a surprisingly different view to that of Steven Bach, one of the executives responsible for Heaven's Gate, who wrote a scathing book about the film and solidified the widely held view that Cimino wounded the movie industry beyond repair.

What an amazing insight into one of my favorite directors of all time. I could not stop listening. What an amazing and troubled life! Gave me insights into Hollywood and sometimes my own issues.

Master of the Senate, told with an abundance of rich detail that could only have come from Caro’s peerless research, is both a galvanizing portrait of the man himself—the titan of Capital Hill, volcanic, mesmerizing—and a definitive and revelatory study of the workings and personal and legislative power.

Breathtaking
Revisado: 06-27-22
I’m literally on the edge of my seat. I’m learning about history and riveted by it. The performance is amazing. And in very unsure why there is a negative review knocking the structure of the book broken into three parts. It’s a long book and a fantastic performance and there is no repeating in any of the recordings except for clear call backs to now relevant passages of the previous books that tie LBJ’s past to the current action. Grover Gardner is simply the best narrator ever.

What a fantastic story!!! Reminiscent of the amazing story telling of Ira Levin. So many twists and turns and continually blurring the line between reality and fiction. The tension and intrigue building scene after scene. Absolutely masterful performances.

Moneyball reveals a quest for something as elusive as the Holy Grail, something that money apparently can't buy: the secret of success in baseball. The logical places to look would be the giant offices of major league teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

I was completely fascinated by the movie. And the book is even more incredible. There are easily fifteen different movies that could still be adapted from this book, that’s how many interesting stories enter-twine. I’m not even a fan of baseball. This is about thinking differently and being an individual.

Historia
Authors Christopher Knight and Alan Butler realized that the ancient system of geometry they presented in their earlier breakthrough study works as perfectly for the Moon as it does the Earth. On further investigation, they found a consistent sequence of beautiful integer numbers when looking at every major aspect of the Moon - no such pattern emerges for any other planet or moon in the solar system. In addition, Knight and Butler discovered that the Moon possesses few or no heavy metals and has no core - something that should not be possible.

There are some very exciting ideas and concepts proposed. A few times it seems to drift into concepts not entirely supported but are just as interesting to consider. I will probably get a hard copy based on this so I can personally investigate some of the measurements proposed. A very fun listen.
