Historia
When renowned anonymous author J. R. Alastor hires former aspiring writer Mila del Angél to host a writing retreat at his private manor off the coast of Maine, she jumps at the chance—particularly since she has an axe to grind with one of the invitees. The guest list? Six thriller authors, all masters of deceit, misdirection, and mayhem. Alastor and Mila have masterminded a week of games, trope-fueled riddles, and maybe a jump scare or two—the perfect cover for Mila to plot a murder of her own.

I probably wouldn’t read again or recommend to friends but it was a fine read and definitely picked up its entertainment value near the end!

Another hit. AWESOME narrators, too!
Revisado: 02-13-25
This was excellent. I was a little leery at first based on the disclaimers and how fast it jumped into S$$ talk, but Hazelwood immediately puts the readers at ease and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters despite their flaws.
Would def recommend.
Also I need more of these narrators. Totally fantastic.

Nothing to write home about. Kind of boring and a bit tedious toward the end. Narrators held it down or I might have DNFd

When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out.

Historia
For ten years, I lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas's golden castle. One night changed everything. Now I'm here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom's army, and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it out of this in one piece. They're marching to battle, and I'm the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war.

Revisado: 01-12-25
Excellent narrators. The storyline and premise continues to delight and enthrall. I did see the two major twists of this book coming, but they were still revealed wonderfully and were fun to read. The writing is much better than the first book and I love the main character’s growth.

Wonderful narrator. Intriguing story. Not stellar writing.
Revisado: 01-11-25
I almost DNF’d during the front half of the book, but the excellent narrator, Digby and Sail’s characters kept me going. I’m glad I did keep listening. The story picks up quite excitingly. The stream of conscious narration is quite tedious and annoying, but I am hoping it improves as the series progresses.

Historia
There’s been a sensational murder at historic Castle Kinloch, a gothic fantasy of grey granite on a remote island in the Highlands of Scotland. Literary superstar Brett Saffron Presley has been found dead—under bizarre circumstances—in the castle tower’s book-lined study. Years ago, Presley purchased the castle as a showpiece for his brand and to lure paying guests with a taste for writerly glamour. Now it seems, the castle has done him in…or, possibly, one of the castle’s guests has.

Revisado: 01-08-25
If not for the narrators I might have DNF’d in the middle when it got a bit tedious and repetitive. However, I did enjoy the characters and the narration enough to stick with it. It was fine. Like nice to pass the time with but wouldn’t recommend it go to the top of anyone’s TBR

Narrators were phenomenal. Would have turned this off without them
Revisado: 12-29-24
Almost DNF’d multiple times, but the narrators’ performance was so compelling that I kept going.
The story was weirdly paced and definitely felt like a teenager wrote it. There was so much complexity that could have been explored to make this better. But the characters were a little stock/one-note considering their hobbies.
