Historia
Tor’s rebellion against the Mindolarn Empire has delivered a crippling blow - the death of Emperor Mentas. Seeking aid from their allies, the Mindolarn Empire turns to the Principality of Soroth and its society of mages, the Sorothian Magical Order. In an effort to aid the empire, the Order’s council mounts an expedition to travel to the nethermost reaches of the world, the Abodine Wasteland. There they must venture to a reliquary hidden deep within crystal ruins left over from a fabled war now almost forgotten.

DNF
Revisado: 05-06-25
This is the first DNF book I've ever left a review for. I throughly enjoyed the Prince's Errand, and I was excited to start this book after finishing. I just could not get past the horrible magic system. It's like some kind of kiju pokemon magic system where they capture monsters in another realm or something. They mentioned this magic system in Prince's Errand, but it's not a major part of the book.
I don't see myself coming back for any future books in this series after this. I can't imagine what the author was thinking when they wrote this.

The ninth floor. Nine armies, each led by rich and powerful aliens from across the galaxy. Each team has one objective: to capture and hold the castle at the very center of the battlefield. Strategy, alliances, pitched battles, and, of course, betrayal ... It all makes for great fun and even greater television. After all, none of these powerful aliens really die when they’re playing war. Except this time. This time, winner takes all. Those who fall, stay in the ground.

Losing it's charm
Revisado: 05-06-25
I LOVED the first few books in this series, but it's losing some it's charm as it goes on. The narrative is slowly changing to something more serious, and while I would normally prefer that, I don't think that it really fits this world and characters.
It's not bad, and if you still love this series I'm sure you'll love this book too, but I think this might be my hoping off point.
Side note: Jeff is as good as ever.

Best book yet
Revisado: 05-06-25
I was afraid going into this book that it wouldn't hold up to the first trilogy, but it turned out my fears were unfounded. This is probably my favorite book in the series so far.
The first trilogy is certainly for adults, but it's still morally pretty black and white. This new series though has blurred the lines and made a lot of the cast far more morally grey. Which is just infinitly more interesting to read.
This series has also shifted from a single character perspective, to an ensemble cast. Personally I always find ensembles far more interesting as you get a far better look at different perspectives.
My only con is one of the new readers/ voice actors isn't nearly as skilled as the rest of the cast.

Bloody damn
Revisado: 04-28-25
Bloody damn good trilogy. Feels like a perfect ending. Ties up the main story, but leaves just enough story for the author to come back to the world later. You could stop here without missing out, but there is enough to make you want to keep going.

Great second book
Revisado: 04-28-25
Great second book. I wasn't expecting a space opera, but I quickly got absorbed by the new story and characters. I've seen this book described as the Empire strikes back of this trilogy and its true, if you know you know.
Biggest con that it loses a star for is that it kind of feels like Darrow learns way too many new skills and builds too many relationships between books. His 'mentor' for instance basically comes out of nowhere.
