From the ashes of a devastated Boston, a harrowing legend emerges. Thirteen years prior, the colossal kaiju, Nemesis, ravaged the city in her relentless pursuit of retribution. Today, mankind's survival teeters on the sacrificial offerings atop a chilling monolith known as The Altar, where the condemned pay the ultimate price to prevent Nemesis's wrath from consuming humanity.

Hard to beat a Robinson novel read by Bray if you like sci-fi. Haven't listened to the original Nemesis novel/s, but this is great just as a stand alone.

Formulaic, but intense
Revisado: 03-20-24
On a couple of the stories the narration could've been better. Overall though it's done fairly well. All the stories follow the exact same formula, which probably wouldn't be a problem if you weren't listening one right after the other.
The stories themselves are disquieting at a minimum, and I had to take several breaks on some of them just processing the depths of depravity.

Historia
In the high mountains of Tibet, rumors are spreading. People whisper of an outbreak, of thousands of dead, of bodies pushed into mass graves. It is some strange new disease...a disease, they say, that can kill in minutes. The Chinese government says the rumors aren't true, but no one is allowed in or out of Tibet. At the Pentagon, admiral James Curtiss learns that satellite images prove that a massive genocide is underway. This is no disease. It's a weapons test. Chinese scientists have developed a way to kill based on a person's genetic traits.

Food for thought
Revisado: 11-21-23
I had a difficult time, on occasion, determining the difference between supposition and fact. All in all it was a good listen. The author does a good job of reading his own book, which seems to be kind of rare. It definitely gives you some ideas to ponder.

Historia
Miah Gray is a 27-year-old former army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush, Jen. When the sun's light is blotted out the following morning and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy.

Another great J Robinson book w Bray
Revisado: 12-26-22
Absolutely love this combo. Jeremy's si-fi stories are top notch with RC Bray bringing them to life. This might not be the best one if you haven't listened to a book put together by this duo ever before, but it's worth the spend.

Historia
Jonas kills people...with his mind. He reaches out, focuses for a moment, and feels a snap of pain between his eyes. Then his target falls over dead: a hole in the center of their brains. The cause of death is unknown to all aside from Jonas, and his lone companion, Bubbles, a sarcastic AI with aspirations to be more human, or a serial killer. One of the two. Maybe both. Jonas calls his ability...mind bullet.

Another winner
Revisado: 09-25-22
Yeah, there were a couple of 'reach' elements in the story, and cringed every time Bray belted out the exclamatory names, but those are my only 2 gripes.
Once again the combo of Bray's reading one of Robinson's stories is total ear and brain candy for me. Space Force still remains my favorite from this duo, but Mind Bullet is great too. A word of warning however, if you listen to one of his novels and like it you'll find that all his stories weave together. So, you get the next one, and then the next one, and pretty soon weeks of your life have been spent listening to these guys.

This is hard to listen to. Not from the perspective of the narration, but from the story being told. Man's inhumanity to his fellow man can be astonishing. Why this is not required reading in our schools is beyond my comprehension.

Historia
When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. The Bitcoin Standard analyzes the historical context to the rise of Bitcoin, the economic properties that have allowed it to grow quickly, and its likely economic, political, and social implications.

Historia
Millions of Americans have lost confidence in our political and economic system. After years of stagnant wages, volatile job markets, and an unwillingness by those in power to deal with profound threats such as climate change, there is a mounting sense that the system is fixed, serving only those select few with enough money to secure a controlling stake. With the characteristic clarity and passion that has made him a central civil voice, Robert B. Reich shows how wealth and power have interacted to install an elite oligarchy, eviscerate the middle class, and undermine democracy.

Lots of opinions and observations stated as facts
Revisado: 05-31-22
I flat forced myself to listen to the last 2 hours to see if there was some other insight I was missing. And, although I agree with the author about the corrupting influence of money causing a nascent oligarchy to form here in the US, his vision of what a 'fixed system' looks like is as dystopian as the current issues we are facing in my opinion. If you really want to find a book that gives you an idea of where we are at and where we need to go then pick up Basic Economics (or really almost anything) by Thomas Sowell.
