Historia
Paul is a recently demoted adjunct instructor of freshman comp, a divorced but doting Brooklyn father, and a self-described “curmudgeonly crank” cataloging his resentment of the priorities of modern life in a book called The Luddite Manifesto. Outraged by the authoritarian creeps ruining the country, he is determined to better the future for his young daughter, one aggrieved lecture at a time.

Rarely do we get an author that has his own superb craft that can also stand up and propel such a crazy, heart-thumping story with believability. In other words, without Wayne’s fine writing skills, the story would not be convincing. Hope this makes sense.

Historia
A hurricane is building, threatening the coastal town of Bois Sauvage, Mississippi, and Esch's father is growing concerned. A hard drinker, largely absent, he doesn't show concern for much else. Esch and her three brothers are stocking food, but there isn't much to save. Lately, Esch can't keep down what food she gets; she's 14 and pregnant. Her brother Skeetah is sneaking scraps for his prized pitbull's new litter, dying one by one in the dirt. Meanwhile, brothers Randall and Junior try to stake their claim in a family long on child's play and short on parenting.

Brilliant and both heart wrenching and joyful
Revisado: 02-28-21
This is one of the best books with perfectly matched narrator - January was so believable as if she were the one that had lived the story and thus had written it.
I am from ‘the South’ have been in 2 floods but nothing like Katrina and I have had 7 dogs consecutively in my life - only skipped having one during college and first job - and I know exactly why the brother acted like he did whenever his dog hurt herself or got sick. I am like that to this day with my current dog. He’s too big for me to pick him up for a bed and when he had a terrible Addison’s crisis I laid on the floor, next to him for almost 2 days.
‘Salvage the Bones’ is a truly great book. Jesmyn, thank you for writing it and thank you, January, for reading it.

Historia
In Dark Towers, award-winning journalist David Enrich reveals the truth about Deutsche Bank and its epic path of devastation. Tracing the bank's history back to its propping up of a default-prone American developer in the 1880s, helping the Nazis build Auschwitz, and wooing Eastern Bloc authoritarians, he shows how in the 1990s, via a succession of hard-charging executives, Deutsche made a fateful decision to pursue Wall Street riches, often at the expense of ethics and the law.

I always knew the gossip
Revisado: 03-27-20
But enrich gives you the dirt in Dark Towers. It really explains a lot. The amount of corruption everywhere is a pernicious virus - so gradual and slow that no one notices until a brilliant writer puts it altogether for us. Thank you for a great read too!

Wow
Revisado: 09-11-15
I can't decide if JJM has truly felt such sadness followed by such credible redemption or she just imagined this is how it would feel. Whichever, it's masterfully told and read. Not one ounce of derisive irony. So refreshing. Thank you JJM for a great book. How did keep it from falling off the edge into a big boring heap of sentimental slush is a fantastic accomplishment.🎯
