Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Heroic & Healing
Revisado: 04-24-18
Great read! Hard to put down. If you think you’ve had it rough, you may feel differently after you read this. I was inspired by this woman’s ability to find peace within herself, after years being bullied, manipulated, and brought to believe that she is basically worthless by her very own. She shows true and triumph & courage.
I am a member of the Mormon church, and it was very troubling to hear the way her father abused and manipulated the teachings of this religion to gain and keep control over his family. I hope readers realize this is NOT how members of this faith are asked to live or treat each other. This families beliefs (particularly the father) have been twisted into something dark and ugly and couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I recommend this book to all, as we all go through trauma and tragedy, you will be inspired to keep going!

Historia
Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. At 28, he's focused only on walking a straight line - getting his teaching degree, working out at the gym religiously, and avoiding all the places and people that proved so destructive in his earlier life. The last thing he's looking for is a serious relationship. But when Maria Sanchez crosses paths with him on a rainswept night in North Carolina, his plans are upended in a way that will rattle the foundations of his carefully structured life.

It was fantastic!! My only complaint is the background music. Found it was very distracting.
