Historia
All the world's a stage...even when you're teleported to a new world. Struggling actress Cara O'Sullivan was walking down the street of Galway one moment, and the next, she was in an ancient tomb in a faraway world. Alone in the dark with her cell phone as her last tenuous connection to home, Cara sings her favorite song. To her astonishment, her song casts a spell of light into the world...and from the depths, something hears her. Challenged by a ghostly knight, a tragic necromancer, and hordes of undead, can a young woman who does not believe in heroes become one herself?

compelling storytelling
Revisado: 10-29-24
The combined effort of the writer and readera!/singer is aabsolutely fantastic. This was done so well that I skipped the free sequel glimpse at the end of the audio and just immediately bought the next one. I'm looking forward to starting the second one now.

how do these books keep getting better?!
Revisado: 08-29-24
I really enjoy this series, but after 5 books, I had started to tell myself that the writing was formulaic and I would likely get tired or bored. Then, after 10 books, I thought there's no way he can wrap up all these storylines... but I was wrong on all accounts. I'm riveted. These books are somehow improving on greatness. The author keeps raising his own bar. The characters and the (multiple) world building has detail and depth without getting bogged down in description. it's action packed without being all about the boss fights. Shirtaloon has taken this genre to a new and epic level. I'm grateful I get to read and listen to them. The narration doesn't ever miss. His delivery keeps you wanting more. Can I get more?!! Seriously, if this series ends at book 12, I hope there are spin offs. it's too good to say goodbye!

the stories of a prophet
Revisado: 09-24-23
Listening to these tales, I had to remind myself over and over that this author wrote these a century ago. it's remarkable the amount of technological predictions and cultural assertions he made that came to pass. the narrators did a wonderful job making these stories come to life. well done.

I thought it was fantastic!
Revisado: 08-26-23
Where some reviews think this book is too slow or has holes such as "no documentation" but I thought it was a great read. The storyline addresses the stupidity of the fleet by always "moving forward" without keeping long term (documentation) histories in mind. The fleet never learns or acknowledges their cultural mistakes, only their tech mistakes. They act as though cultures are something to be dismissed. This theme is what drives Captains like Crow and Cooper to work towards something better. I think some previous reviewers missed the point. This book (and series) makes a statement about the importance of cultural understanding, the importance of individual perspective, and the individual's influence on the whole. I really enjoyed it.

Great twist on the space empire trope
Revisado: 07-13-23
my favorite part of science fiction is the science aspect. I love that this book keeps adding in builds for the sci-fi technology. Each new "stealth tech" discovery leads me down my own fun "how would that actually work?!" path. The characters are realistic and relatable. I'll definitely end up re-reading this series.

In this dark and gritty collection - featuring short stories from Jim Butcher, Seanan McGuire, Kevin J. Anderson, and Rob Thurman - nothing is as simple as black and white, light and dark, good and evil.... Unfortunately, that's exactly what makes it so easy to cross the line.

Revisado: 07-01-23
I don't usually get into these anthologies. So often I'm dissatisfied with the stories and theme. This one, though, was brilliant. A well executed theme carried from story to story. Each author and narrator captivating in their own way. Enjoyable listen from beginning to end.

Historia
Apparently, there’s no rest for the over-forty crowd. Yes, I have fabulous friends. Yes, I have a beautiful baby. Yes, the ghosts are coming back home. Yes, I’m in love with the Grim Reaper. However, that sexy Demon has got some major ’splainin’ to do … like his possible involvement in the shocking kidnapping of my worst and most deadly enemy. With a drag queen and an ice queen as my back up, we’re going to sashay away into the Darkness to find the truth and turn a wrong into a right. Although, I’m learning fast that black and white are often clouded with shades of gray.

another incomplete story.
Revisado: 06-24-23
The books are fun, so I keep going, but usually I end up feeling disappointed at the brief storyline with ridiculous "cliffhangers" that make it seem like the author couldn't make a deadline. 9 of these novels = 4 books.

With my life back to normal - normal being a very relative word - one would think I’d catch a break. One would be very wrong. With an angel gunning for me and a demon in my bed, life couldn’t be more complicated. Not to mention, I’m going to have to make a rather large life choice. Do I want to live forever? Does anyone? Forever is a very long time. Whatever. I’ll think about it tomorrow...or next week...or next month. As long as I have my girlfriends, my dogs, a super-sized case of merlot, and my deceased squatters, I’m good to go.

Historia
Of course, if there were only one thing under Liscor, there would be far less to fear. However, the dungeon continues to be a threat. At the same time, Goblins continue to roam northern Izril, but not all of them are as hostile to people as Tremborag or the Goblin Lord. Will the Unseen Emperor of Riverfarm make that distinction, however? A reckoning is coming as old faces and new reemerge. And all the while, The Wandering Inn is still serving food and respite and even plays to adventurers and Antinium alike. But something is coming from the dungeons. And it—they—are hungry.
