Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

A whole lot of nothing
Revisado: 06-21-24
The narrator did a great job. But the book is so full of interminable, boring, scientifically inaccurate passages that it took me two tries and an immense amount of willpower to finish this book. The story really is the first and the last hour of the book. Everything else in between is completely unnecessary.

Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Painful to listen to
Revisado: 05-04-23
James Franco dispassionate and uninspired narration is painful to listen to. He seems to struggle to just plain read at times.
I like him enough as an actor but this “performance” was miserable.
Why did anybody suggest that he gets a German speaking coach so that he would not butcher the few sentences in German?
The story itself is a little out there but the narration made it even more difficult to get into.
Better luck with my next book I hope.

Historia
All the stories in this collection from Stephen King are related to the Vietnam War. King fans will recognize echoes of The Dark Tower series in the collection's first story, "Low Men in Yellow Coats." As the characters develop over the next four stories, King's version of the Vietnam War becomes one of his most frightening tales ever.

Great story. William Hurt butchers the narration.
Revisado: 02-28-22
I really liked the book. But it was excrutiating to listen to William Hurt completely ignore all punctuation. He runs the sentences in one breath melting them together coming up for air in the most random places.
Stephen King does a lovely job with his narration.

Historia
Martin Eden, Jack London's semiautobiographical novel about a struggling young writer, is considered by many to be the author's most mature work. Personifying London's own dreams of education and literary fame as a young man in San Francisco, Martin Eden's impassioned but ultimately ineffective battle to overcome his bleak circumstances makes him one of the most memorable and poignant characters Jack London ever created.

Great book. Narration is a bit of a turn off
Revisado: 01-22-21
I loved the book. But I wish the narrator didn’t read Martin as a robot.
