Historia
Before the Five Families who so notoriously dominated U.S. organized crime for a bloody half-century, there was the one-fingered, surpassingly cunning Giuseppe Morello and his murderous coterie of brothers. Born into a life of poverty in rural Sicily, Morello became an American nightmare, pioneering the bizarre initiation rituals, imaginative protection rackets, influential underworld reigns, and Mafia wars later popularized by countless books, television shows, and movies.

As an organized crime devotee, I was delighted to discover this very thorough exploration of its beginnings in the Italian community in America. As others have noted, it reads very much like a novel and displays excellent narration. Very highly recommended,

A couple of new things I didn't already know but otherwise just an rehash of the same old sh*t. Not much to hear here. "Mafia Library" is just a series of rehashings of boiler plate that is already in Wikipedia. Do yourself a favor and give them all a miss. Narrator not too bad though.

Historia
In this social history of the impact of railroads on American life, H. Roger Grant concentrates on the railroad's "golden age," 1830-1930. To capture the essence of the nation's railroad experience, Grant explores four fundamental topics - trains and travel, train stations, railroads and community life, and the legacy of railroading in America. Grant recalls the lasting memories left by train travel, both of luxurious Pullman cars and the grit and grind of coal-powered locals.

Historia
Frank Sheeran, known as the Irishman, waited his entire life to tell his story, or at least his version of his story. The world knew him as a union official, a longtime member of the Teamsters Union; he was a member of Jimmy Hoffa's inner circle at the top of the national union. As an old man suffering from cancer, Frank Sheeran shared his story with his attorney. He told him of the things that were already known, but he shared much, much more. This book explores Sheeran's confessions as a lifelong criminal with ties to some of the biggest crimes of the 20th century.

Mediocre to middling, but "d'COW" and "LUFF-WAFFLE"- kinda ruins the narration. Mercy, Eric--please, it's not that difficult.

Historia
In Truth of the War Conspiracy of 1861, the author argues that Lincoln and his co-conspirators used deceit and disinformation to promote war. Published in 1917, the text benefits from documentation which was not available when postwar Confederates wrote their histories of the conflict. This audiobook makes an important contribution to exposing the historical myths promoted by big government elites and academics.

A collection of easily verified documents crreating a cogent and compelling explanation of how Lincoln was willing to sacrifice treasure and blood in order that the South not be allowed to leave the union. An eye-opening read for anyone steeped in the modern propaganda of "honest Abe".

I own upwards to two dozen Holmes audibooks but nothing, NOTHING, compares with Stephen F ry's renditions, Instead of being flat like all the others, he puts craft into his act and makes me think I'm listeniing to the actual characters in a stage play. It is much more costly than my other renditions, but once you hear it you forget the price difference. You do get what you pay for. Try a free sample, but be warned----you'll have to buy it! --Al Short

Evans interweaves a broad narrative of the war’s progress with viscerally affecting personal testimony from a wide range of people - from generals to front-line soldiers, from Hitler Youth activists to middle-class housewives. The Third Reich at War lays bare the dynamics of a nation more deeply immersed in war than any society before or since. Fresh insights into the conflict’s great events are here, from the invasion of Poland to the Battle of Stalingrad to Hitler’s suicide in the bunker.

Total waste of time

If you are interested in another chestnut about what those horrible Nazis did to those poor innocent Jews, you'll love this. If you're looking for a well researched account of National Socialist Germany during the 1939-1945 period you will be sickened by the B.S. you will be forced to endure.
This needs to be re-labelled as the propoganda it actually is.
