Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

It was fine.
Revisado: 03-04-25
I enjoyed it and am fascinated that it was based on a real woman. I believe Martha Ballard would be happy with the book and definitely how she was portrayed.
It was difficult for me to keep track of all the characters and there is some grizzly part at the beginning.
Once past that, it was good.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

WAY TOO LONG!
Revisado: 02-13-25
I liked it, but had to force myself to finish it. I kept looking to see how much longer?
Interesting premise and time travel. My head is loopy, since I’m watching LOST for the first time, too. (What year is it)?

Historia
Hello to you, I am with news. I have a new book: I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. I know – what an intriguing title! Basically, I have had an unexpectedly difficult decade – there have been surprising joys but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I shall be honest about those, because what I discovered in the difficult times were my, what I call, treasures.

Honest, delightful and meaningful - a true treasure!
Revisado: 10-23-24
I loved every moment! Miranda Hart is insightful, inspirational, with a dash (no, more like a drizzle) of the silliness, that we all adore about this uber-talented woman. It was a book that, I couldn’t put down, read slowly to savor and kept checking the time left because I didn’t want it to end. I’m now going to read it a second time - this time taking notes!
I’m so delighted that Miranda is joyous and free after 33 years being undiagnosed with Lyme disease. Her book is about hope, surrender and love; all of which I can use more of in my life!

Historia
The horse Susan Richards chose for rescue wouldn't be corralled into her waiting trailer. Instead, Lay Me Down, a former racehorse with a foal close on her heels, walked right up that ramp and into Susan's life. This gentle creature, malnourished, plagued by pneumonia and an eye infection, had endured a rough road, but somehow her heart was still open and generous.

I'm sure why I listened to this... probably because I like Aaron Paul. I won't list to the next installment. Parformances seemed s little over-the top; Andi really didn't care about the players. The ending did surprise me, though.

It was OK...Glad it was free.
Revisado: 09-21-24
The performances were great. I haven't listened to a full production audiobook in a long time. Aarol Paul www as especially good - I didn't even recognize his voice initially; Beau Bridges was an added bonus.
The story was predictable. Maybe Mr. Patterson is running out of ideas?

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

The characters were so evil and vile that I nearly stopped numerous times. Hateful people and some things just weren't believable. (Jackson's behavior wasn't consistent).

A MUST read!
Revisado: 08-31-24
I loved EVERYTHING about this book, except one thing: it was too short! Mr. Perry has a spectacular life story - this we know. This book is inspirational, personal and transparent. It left me wanting more.
One other thing, that was obviously a carefully thought out decision was that Mr. Perry did not read the book himself. That, would have added another star for me.
In a world that is so "politcally-correct" being a Christian publically is not an easy decision. Mr. Perry quotes scripture throughout and speaks constantly, not just about God, but Jesus himself.
Thank you, Mr. Perry! I'm now going to buy a caseful and give them away as cherished gifts.

Historia
Faith, I tell them, is a mystery, elusive to many, and never easy to explain. Sweeping and lyrical, spellbinding and unforgettable, David Ebershoff’s The 19th Wife combines epic historical fiction with a modern murder mystery to create a brilliant novel of literary suspense. It is 1875, and Ann Eliza Young has recently separated from her powerful husband, Brigham Young, prophet and leader of the Mormon Church. Expelled and an outcast, Ann Eliza embarks on a crusade to end polygamy in the United States.

Kept me interested, but the interwined storylines were confusing.
Revisado: 08-15-24
I liked it just as much the second time as the first time I read it seven years ago. My four stars still stands as I found it difficult at times to follow jumping back and forth between time periods, interspersed with someone else who wrote a thesis on Ann Eliza. Each time, however, I found myself investigating what was true and what wasn’t.
The real tragedy is that it is still going on today, not to mention the pedophilia and child abuse, that are part of the system. It makes me sick and hope that the authorities continue to prosecute all involved.

Paris!
Revisado: 07-31-24
I just loved the story, that it is set in Paris; how this unexpected, seemingly odd gift is transformational.
I also loved that it wasn't too heavy, mauldelin and/or gut-wrenching. A delightful surprise and great summer read.
