The story
Revisado: 02-06-24
I really liked the overall story. Of course, as with any who done it, much of the story was unrealistic but that’s what made it interesting.

It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise?

One of the best
Revisado: 01-03-23
Such a thought provoking and inspirational read. This is a well told story so that you forget the whole premise of the strings is a bit of mild sci fi. The author used the strings as a concept to tell a bigger “what if” story. One of the best books I have read in awhile.

Historia
After only a year of marriage, Pavel Ythjall found himself staring into the eyes of a neurosurgeon who told him point-blank: “Your wife will be paralyzed, neck down, for life.” At the time, Pavel had a broken neck, too. His vertebrae were supported by a halo screwed directly into his skull. A tragic accident on the way to a Christmas party had changed their lives forever.

Respect for both Kat and Pavel
Revisado: 09-25-22
This is someone’s story and reads as a therapeutic experience for the author. Unfortunately doesn’t necessarily make it a good listen or story. Absolutely tragic what happened to this couple. The telling of the story, however was a bit chaotic and hard to follow for 3/4 of the book. This is probably not what the author wants to hear but listening to this story confirms that if I were ever to sustain a high cervical spinal cord injury I would absolutely not want to be treated to sustain life. I will be having a serious conversation with my husband and kids about this as a result of finishing this story. To be fair and up front, as a PT in an acute rehab facility, this choice is not really new for me. I have never been afraid of dying, living with chronic conditions is so much worse. I’ll take the easy way out. I wouldn’t really recommend this book to anyone I know. I listened vs read it and performance wise, I think it would have been better if Pavel narrated the book.

A bit long
Revisado: 12-10-21
Thought provoking story line but was drawn out too long. Some of the experiences depicted in book were just too far fetched. There were opportunities to “call the cops” and put an end to it all. Anyway, admittedly held my interest enough that I wanted to finish the book so that is why I gave it 4 stars.

Historical Fiction fans read this.

I did a mix of Audible and read “manually”. I never would have pronounced the names correctly. The author had just a very subtle accent that made the story telling more authentic somehow. A well told story with just enough hints and twists to engage the reader.
