Maybe it was me. I felt there were too many subplots and I got lost a few times. I could have used a few more reminders of how Kade came to power. For some reason, I'm drawing a blank on his back story.

That being said, it is still my favorite series and I will pre-order book 12.

If you are triggered by domestic violence, you probably want to skip this book.

Kristin Hanna is a magnificent storyteller. She does a fantastic job of painting a picture of Alaska that is so vivid, you will feel like you are there. Her descriptions of the landscape, terrain and wildlife are beautifully woven into the story. Alaska is a major character in this book.

If you read the story summary, you already know it's about a family's move to Alaska. In Alaska, they learn family is more than who shares your DNA. The people they meet are strong and independent. Without hesitation, they extend their hand in helping the family survive in the wild. It's about a community of people who share a love of the wild but have conflict when it comes to progress.

It's about a young girl growing into a strong, independent woman while living in a violent household. What I loved most about the book is the loving bond between mother and daughter. Mom doesn't always make the right decisions, but her love for her daughter is undeniable.

It's also a coming of age story as it follows Leni's family from age 13 to adulthood. She tells her story of why Alaska is her home and why she loves it so much.

And, it tells a story of a man broken by the Vietnam war. He was a POW and carries the pain of those memories with him to Alaska. Unfortunately, the conditions of Alaska don't help his mental state and he becomes physically abusive. His wife has an undying love for him and tries to get him back to who he was before he went to war.

In summary, you have family and friends in a harsh and brutal landscape, looking for a better life.

Reviews for this book are all over the place. This reviewer loved the story and most of the performance. It had all the elements of a good mystery in that the author presents several scenarios of who might have done the crime. A good old-fashioned whodunit with a surprising ending. If you enjoyed Gone Girl or Girl On The Train, you will also enjoy When You Find Me

You might think the story is fictional because it is THE perfect crime story. You have the young, handsome, educated middle-class man turned crime boss living a double life; beautiful, naïve woman madly in love with him (and him with her); government agencies tripping over themselves to catch the criminal hiding in plain sight; rouge law-enforcement agents using dirty tactics and succumbing to temptation to commit crimes themselves. It all comes together in this well researched book about a man with ideals that he has what it takes to outsmart everyone and create the most memorable crime of all time.

Throughout the story, I was expecting a deep, dark secret would jump off the pages and I would say "Ah-ha! I knew that would happen." Nope. Liane kept it twisted right up to the epilogue. Alice has that rare opportunity to remove all filters in her memory and look back on where she was at the beginning of her marriage. Over the course of a week, she learns of past decisions she made, people she has hurt and people she let fade from her life. Now, Alice has to decide who she likes better, the person she was or the person she became.

I don't recall who recommended this book and I am grateful that I followed their advice. I occasionally suffer from depression and this book helped me to understand what contributes to depression and how to combat the effects. The chapters are about 30 minutes in length, which makes it perfect for listening a little each day.

From the first sentence through the last word, Hell Divers is exciting and engaging. The writer described in excellent detail what was happening and R.C. Bray brilliantly brought those words alive. Bravo! Can't wait to start the next book in the series

I couldn't finish. Perhaps in written form the story is exciting but the audio version is difficult to follow and poorly presented.
