Historia
Phoebe has a dream - a very modest dream. She wants to own a Sno-Cone truck at the beach in Key West. Nicky, her would-be boyfriend, also dreams small. All he wants is a decent gig as a guitar player in a bar. Doesn't seem like too much to ask of life, does it? So why do things keep going so dreadfully wrong for Phoebe and Nicky? Is it just plain bad luck? Or is it the decidedly bad intentions of a sleazy local cheat, a Miami gangster desperate to stay in business, and a murderous Cuban smuggler looking for a fall guy?

An absolutely appalling narrator
Revisado: 12-01-24
Jem Matzam’s narration is choppy with staccato emphasis on conjunctions and no flow from phrase to phrase or sentence to sentence. It’s so bad that listening is unpleasant.
I will avoid books narrated by Jem Matzam in the future. That’s a shame because I enjoy Laurence Shames’ Key West books and Jem Matzam has record several of them so they are off the table for me.

Historia
An intriguing case for Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte begins on a calm October day in an Australian seaside town. Three men set out to sea for a day's fishing ... and do not return. Despite intensive searches, no trace of the men or their boat is found until, weeks later, a passing trawler hauls in a gruesome catch - the head of one of the missing fishermen. It is quite clear that its owner was murdered with a pistol bullet. But by whom, and why, is for Bony to find out.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-17-24
Okay, every author is entitled to write one book to make a vacation tax-deductible and this is Arthur Upfield’s. Sadly the plot is thin, Bony doesn’t have a chance to use his talents, and the climax relies on a deus ex machina.

If you find oppositional defiance disorder amusing and long for heroines who rush off to meetings in the deserted mill at midnight after burning the message, this is the book for you! And there’s plenty of it; the text outlasts the plot by a couple of hundred pages.

In the fourth inning, a monstrous line drive brings every fan in the grandstand to his feet - every fan save for one silver-haired senator, who has been shot dead by a sniper in the upper deck.
