Historia
Two mismatched brothers must save their late mother's failing board game company using an unconventional marketing framework, or risk losing their family legacy forever. When their mother unexpectedly passes away, Joe and Pete inherit her once-thriving board game company. But with the stock price plummeting and their own incompetence threatening to sink the business, these polar opposite brothers – Joe, an overconfident jock, and Pete, a sensitive poet – must put aside their differences and work together to save their family's legacy.

Delightful overview of StoryBrand Framework
Revisado: 01-27-25
This is an entertaining business parable about the StoryBrand Framework, followed by a podcast-style discussion and teaching. If you’re looking for an intro to this framework, or if you’re looking to deepen your understanding of it, it’s well worth the small price of admission.

Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

Pretty useful framework
Revisado: 10-15-24
I enjoyed it overall, once I got past the loose use of “proof” and “debunk” in the early chapters. Once again, correlation does not equal causation. The ideas of career capital, control, and mission I believe to be valuable.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 08-18-24
I bought this as credits expiring and I’d heard good things about it. In some ways I was prepared for it to be over hyped though I was pleasantly surprised. The stories, principles, and business applications tied together so well to illustrate key points. I’ve already changed how I communicate with my team and how I think about leading people to accomplish our mission (in healthcare).

Historia
It's time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker. When his land was drought-stricken in ancient times, Honi ha-M'agel drew a circle in the sand, stepped inside it, and wouldn't budge until God answered his petition for rain. Honi's story transformed author Mark Batterson's own experience with prayer and inspired him to document his journey to praying more powerful prayers in The Circle Maker.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Simply the new standard for audiobook
Revisado: 09-27-23
I'm a long ago U2 fan, following them around Europe in 1987, but haven't paid much attention to them lately. My wife said I should try this book, she was enjoying it. From the very beginning, I was blown away. The use of music and sound effects really enhances the audio book format, such that I cannot even imagine reading the print version. So much would be lost. Bono is great in narration, not unexpected, and there is so much richness and depth in the story. If I were to look for a criticism, the only thing I would say is that the story ambles around a bit such that the destination is often uncertain and sometimes I'd think, woah, how'd we get here? I think this style of audio performance should be embraced by others whenever possible.
Overall highly, highly recommend.

Historia
Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Following his blockbuster biography of Steve Jobs, The Innovators is Walter Isaacson’s revealing story of the people who created the computer and the Internet. It is destined to be the standard history of the digital revolution and an indispensable guide to how innovation really happens. This story weaves together a number of diverse characters from throughout history, time and again showing the power of smart people collaborating to refine ideas and improve products (rather than progress being marked by individual genius).

What if charisma could be taught? For the first time, science and technology have taken charisma apart, figured it out, and turned it into an applied science: In controlled laboratory experiments, researchers could raise or lower people's level of charisma as if they were turning a dial.

The Production Distracts from Valuable Content
Revisado: 07-17-22
There is much to like about the material taught in this book. However, the audio production and (lack of) outline noticeably detract from the overall experience.
Starting with lack of chapter titles, which would make it easier to go back later and review key sections, I felt like the listener was never considered in the production. The narration had misplaced pauses and sections that were clearly re-recorded and inserted awkwardly, and at a different audio level, drawing my focus away from the content and toward the production.
This is the first audio book I’ve listened to where I was so keenly aware of, and distracted by, the production quality.
