Historical fiction is a wonderful way to learn about times and places you haven't experienced. A Land Remembered is one of the best I have ever read. It is constantly moving forward and I became so invested in the characters and story that I lost track of time more than once. When a book is a fantastic read I keep replaying scenes in my head after I have moved on to other books. This one will stay with me for a long, long time. Thoroughly enjoyable and very well written!

Phenomenal AS Usual

I have come to realize over the forty or so years I have been reading Stephen King that he very rarely disappoints me. The Outsider was no exception. He has a way of making me feel comfortable and safe even when the subject matter is violent, eerie and unsettling. I did not want this one to end so soon and I especially enjoyed the addition of a character from the Bill Hodges trilogy. Stephen King takes me to my happy place.

Hope In the Face Of Horror

This is the most upbeat, hopeful postapocalyptic novel I have ever read. I was grabbed from the beginning and became so invested in the diverse characters that I didn't want it to end. It is a tribute to the best of human nature and I am hoping for a sequel.

It's Not What You Think

I put off reading this book for a VERY long time because I really did not want to relive that point in history when I was 10 years old and the unthinkable happened. The stellar reviews pulled me in and I am thankful. It's not at all what I thought it would be. Instead, it's a delightful escape which makes you realize that "what ifs" are not all they are cracked up to be. I loved the characters and the unexpected way I was comforted by the ending. This book will stay with me for a long time.

Perfect Escape to Another Time and Place

For Jane Austen fans or those just needing to escape from today's lack of civility, Northanger Abbey will let you travel to a simpler time. Experience a young girl's coming of age as she learns important lessons regarding the strength of character of her new acquaintances. The story and performances were thoroughly enjoyable.

It's Already Happening

Please read this book (this version) to the very end including all of the notes and commentary. Authoritarian regimes have a playbook, a list of manipulations they must complete on the road to successful rule. They prey on the weak, the desperate, the ignorant and the power-hungry. Many states whose leaders prefer a white, monotheistic, authoritarian government have already curtailed the teaching of history, banned books (including this one)in schools, taken away women's control over their own bodies and made it very difficult for minorities to vote. Don't think it can't happen. We are watching it take place step by step.

A Very Possible Future

This book was thoroughly enjoyable. I loved the varied backgrounds of the characters and how their lives were affected by a climate change ravaged future. As opposed to many, I found the character of Amelia the least compelling. I could not identify with her, probably for the same reasons I don't watch meaningless reality tv. However, if you are interested in the scientific and socioeconomc repercussions of climate change you will enjoy this author's description of one possible future. I look forward to sequels.

Affected Me Deeply

I really didn't think the story would hit me so hard, but I was wrong. Maybe it was because of my Jewish heritage or because my father fought the Nazis in WWII. He had me watch documentaries featuring Nazi atrocities at a young age and implored me to "never forget". It may just be that I am witnessing fascists ans Neo-Nazi sympathizers infiltrate our own government with not enough push-back. Everyone has either forgotten or never known how slippery the slope can be and how quickly it can be too late. Historical fiction can be a very powerful teaching tool. Read it!

Thoroughly Enjoyable

"End of Watch" wraps up the Bill Hodges trilogy beautifully with some sadness, but also with the affirmation that "Good Triumphs over Evil." The story and narration were thoroughly enjoyable.
