How will he get on with his new boss? The local farmers? And what will the animals think? This program is filled with hilarious and touching tales of the unpredictable Siegfried Farnon, his charming student brother Tristan, and Herriot's first encounters with a beautiful girl named Helen.

A cultural phenomenon for a reason
Revisado: 11-08-21
James Patterson, Danielle Steele, etc., don't write this well and they're pros. Timeless, compelling, wholesome, validating (assuming you value risk taking, hard work, personal responsibility, traditional values and the like). The over-used term "heartwarming" also comes to mind...

Historia
Midnight Express tells the gut-wrenching true story of a young man's incarceration and escape from a Turkish prison. In 1970, Billy Hayes was an English major who left college in search of adventures to write about, like his hero Jack London. He had a rude awakening when he was arrested at the airport in Istanbul trying to board a plane while carrying four pounds of hashish, and given a life sentence.

4.5 overall.

Recommend it, even IF you saw the movie - especially considering how it gave the Turks an undeserved bad rap (or worse rap, rather).

Still... loved the against all odds, deprivation, and self-sacrifice elements of this story. Too bad Cuba turned out the way it has, though. All card carrying Capitalists should consider this book.

Historia
As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

Merely "good".
Revisado: 10-21-21
The reader's voice... not super pleasant or soothing let's just say (modulation, timbre, etc.). His characterizations are pretty good, though. The writing is ok, but DEFINITELY no more than that. The story is good but not especially compelling (it didn't have me wondering - at all - what comes next).
