Historia
The year is 2026. China has taken over as the world's largest economy, while the United States, mired in an oil shortage, struggles to adjust to its diminished role. Then, a surprise attack throws the US into a chaos unseen since Pearl Harbor. As the enemy takes control, the survival of the nation will depend upon the most unlikely forces: the Navy's antiquated Ghost Fleet and a cadre of homegrown terrorists.

Good, but not compelling
Revisado: 08-25-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The premise was terrific and plausible, but the story was just not engaging.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The "look" into the near future was spot on given the current world scene. The characters were pretty 1 dimensional.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Rich Orlow?
Maybe. Not sure if his performance influenced my opinion of the book.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Wow, just Wow.
Revisado: 07-26-15
Would you consider the audio edition of 11-22-63 to be better than the print version?
Don't know about the print version, but the narrator of this story was without question the best I've ever heard. What a performance, and that's what is was. Tour de force!
What did you like best about this story?
Absolutely everything. It grabbed me from the get go and never let go.
What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?
He was spectacular getting into the characters. Best I've ever heard.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end was touching and sweet. Couldn't have been better.
Any additional comments?
I was afraid I'd never listen/read another King book after I attempted to read Mr. Mercedes. I had to abort. 11-22 might be the best book he's ever written and that's saying a lot.

Interesting, but tended to get a bit mushy
Revisado: 07-05-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Depends on who it is. I found the book enjoyable and interesting to a point, but the author could get a little too caught up in emotional speculation.
Would you be willing to try another book from Sy Montgomery? Why or why not?
Perhaps, but not sure
What three words best describe Sy Montgomery’s performance?
overly enthusiastic
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several touching and astounding moments focusing on the octopus's amazing abilities
Any additional comments?
I like the book in general, but there was just a tad too much kuybaya.

A must read
Revisado: 05-03-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
One of the best books I've listened to on Audible. It completes the HBO documentary by putting faces with names.
What did you like best about this story?
Lays the "church" to bare and illuminates how a cult/mafia operates.
What about Morton Sellers’s performance did you like?
Provides the perfect tone and tenor for the narrative.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My wife told me I'd say, "You've got to be s****ing me" for about every 10 minutes of listening.
Any additional comments?
After you read this book, you'll understand why the Germans wouldn't allow Scientology to establish there. One Hitler was enough.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Narrator might be the best I've heard
Revisado: 11-23-14
Where does Sycamore Row rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Nice yarn. Time to Kill might have been the last Grisham book I've read and this was equal to it.
What other book might you compare Sycamore Row to and why?
Up there with Robert Galbraith's Silkworm and Cuckoo's Calling in the way the story keeps your attention
Have you listened to any of Michael Beck’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first one, and he may be the best narrator I've heard. Just nails the accents and mannerisms.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
My only quibble with Grisham is that every character has a stereotypical southern name--Jake, Lucien, Rubin, Seth, Calvin, Booker, Lettie, Axel, Sylvester, Harry Rex, etc. No Bill, John or Bob in this novel....

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Historia
With over $500 million a year in sales, the Bassett Furniture Company was once the world's biggest wood furniture manufacturer. But beginning in the 1980s, the Bassett company suffered from an influx of cheap Chinese furniture as the first waves of Asian competition hit, and ultimately was forced to send its production offshore to Asia. Only one man fought back. That man is John Bassett III, a descendant of the Bassetts who is now chairman of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co, which employs more than 700 Virginians and has sales of over $90 million.

It should be required reading for all of those like me and my family who live in the area but "ain't from around here". We've been here for 17 years, I served on the Henry County BOS, but I never knew just how much all these characters were interrelated. Now I know why the place is the way it is. Kudos to Beth Macey.
