A recounting of a political perspective
Revisado: 02-15-24
Mr Pompeo's book is his account of the events from his perspective and I found it revealing, both positive and negative. His "bona fides" are impressive from USMA cadet, officer, politician, Congressman, CIA director, and SecState, I enjoyed the book and respect his contributions and willingness to serve.

Historia
In December 2009, a group of the CIA’s top terrorist hunters gathered at a secret base in Khost, Afghanistan, to greet a rising superspy: Humam Khalil al-Balawi, a Jordanian double-agent who infiltrated the upper ranks of al-Qaeda. For months, he had sent shocking revelations from inside the terrorist network and now promised to help the CIA assassinate Osama bin Laden’s top deputy. Instead, as he stepped from his car, he detonated a 30-pound bomb strapped to his chest, instantly killing seven CIA operatives....

Historia
In the aftermath of the Cold War, American intelligence caught three high-profile Russian spies: Aldrich Ames, Edward Lee Howard, and Robert Hanssen. However, rumors have long swirled of another mole, one perhaps more damaging than all the others combined. Perhaps the greatest traitor in American history, perhaps a Russian ruse to tear the CIA apart, or perhaps nothing more than a bogeyman, he is often referred to as the Fourth Man.

My regret is that I did not read this sooner. Should be required reading for all intel analysts as it details our interaction with ISIS from an analyst's perspective. Kudos to the author for detailing the intricacies and equities of foreign players as the ISIS threat evolved.

Historia
America’s chaotic retreat from Afghanistan in 2021 was nothing short of a horror show. Women and children were trampled to death outside the gates of the Kabul airfield. Desperate Afghans fell from the landing gear of departing planes. Taliban fighters mercilessly whipped and humiliated U.S. civilians. Countless Afghan interpreters were abandoned to the mercy of the Taliban after risking their lives alongside American troops for years. And thirteen U.S. service members were murdered in an ISIS suicide bombing. Still, the full story is worse than anyone imagined.

Required reading for all
Revisado: 02-15-24
Should be required reading for all Soldiers and Marines - former, active, and those considering service. A well informed account of the events that history will likely attribute as one of the events that "fundamentally transformed" our Nation. The book details the policy, execution, and sadly the failure of post event analysis from the lessons learned perspective. For those who served the book is not an easy read and will very likely make you angry.

Historia
David Stirling is the name synonymous with the wartime SAS, but the real brains behind the operation was in fact Bill Stirling, David’s eldest brother. Bill was described in the SAS War Diary as a ‘man from the shadows’; it was an apt description for, unlike his attention seeking brother, Bill shunned the spotlight. Now for the first time the truth – and the triumph – of 2SAS is revealed.

Excellent Historical Perspective

Just when we think we have an understanding of the origins of SAS- this book enlightens us. I enjoyed the book as it provided the personal, institutional, and historical atmospherics lacking in most SAS-related publications. Most inspiring is the love of country patriotism and personal courage of those willing to go join the SAS.

Historia
Packed with new reporting, Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party tracks Trump’s improbable journey from disgraced and defeated former president to the dominant force, yet again, in the Republican Party. From his exile in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump has become more extreme, vengeful, and divorced from reality than he was on January 6, 2021. His meddling damaged the GOP’s electoral prospects and his legal troubles were mounting. Yet he re-emerged as the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and the president-elect.

Every imaginable negative - Real and Imagined
Revisado: 12-15-23
A difficult read for those seeking a critical analysis of the Presidency. Credibility suffers as Mr Karl's personal interpretation of every event, conversation, and "sourced" interaction is negative. The negativity is boringly constant and on some occasions does not reflect my on-site experiences. I am not a fan of the former President and firmly believe those who broke the law on Jan 6 should be held accountable. In sum my hope the book would provide a balanced and objective account of the End of the Grand Old Party from a seasoned correspondent was not to be.

Historia
Relentless Strike tells the inside story of Joint Special Operations Command, the secret military organization that, during the past decade, has revolutionized counterterrorism, seamlessly fusing intelligence and operational skills to conduct missions that hit the headlines and those that have remained in the shadows - until now. Because JSOC includes the military's most storied special operations units - Delta Force, SEAL Team Six, the 75th Ranger Regiment - as well as America's most secret aviation and intelligence units, this is their story, too.

Historia
The massive armies of the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies posed a huge threat to the nations of Western Europe. US military planners decided they needed a plan to slow the juggernaut they expected when and if a war began. The plan was Special Forces Berlin. Their mission, should hostilities commence, was to wreak havoc behind enemy lines and buy time for vastly outnumbered NATO forces to conduct a breakout from the city.

Revisado: 09-15-18
Although not in DET A. I had the very good fortune to serve with many of its Officers as they came across to serve in the 6th Infantry. To the man they were respected and provided value added to the Brigade. Later I served in a position that provided some visibility of DET A activities. My biggest disappointment with the book is it does not give credit to many of the activities the Detachment did well and routinely. Additionally there is little mention of the regional deterrent effect it had on our adversaries. Also, an irritant was the mispronunciation of USCOB by the narrator.

Historia
It is difficult to find another soldier's story to equal Captain Darrell Watt's in terms of time spent on the field of battle and challenges faced. Even by the lofty standards of the SAS and Special Forces, one has to look far to find anyone who can match his record of resilience and valor in the face of such daunting odds and with resources so paltry. In the fight, he showed himself to be a military maestro. After 12 years in the cauldron of war, his cause slipped from beneath him, and Rhodesia gave way to Zimbabwe.

Fantastic Story- Title says it all... Hard Men
Revisado: 10-05-17
What a story! The book is not for the lighthearted. Tells the story from the perspective of the Rhodesian SAS, which some may find objectionable philosophically, and in deed. However, it also reveals the other side of the events-- the complicity of neighbors, the role of South Africa, Cuba, the Soviet Union and the UK/US/UN. Like the sinking of the Titanic we know the ending, but with a continuing vengeful twist not envisioned by the world players.
As the book progressed I grew accustomed to the narrator's slow reading and lack of inflection.
