Historia
When the manuscript of a debut crime novel arrives at a Parisian publishing house, everyone in the readers’ room is convinced it’s something special. And the committee for France’s highest literary honor, the Prix Goncourt, agrees. But when the shortlist is announced, there’s a problem for editor Violaine Lepage: She has no idea of the author’s identity. As the police begin to investigate a series of murders strangely reminiscent of those recounted in the book, Violaine is not the only one looking for answers.

Flawed Characters Rule!!
Revisado: 08-31-24
I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed this book! I was a bit confused now and then but it all came together. Dysfunctional families and flawed people usually make a good story. These characters did. I loved taking a seat in a publishing house Readers Room! I enjoyed learning how it all works. Very enjoyable listen and narration.

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

Delightful
Revisado: 08-24-24
Delightful is a funny way to describe an horror novel I know, but it's exactly what this book was. The stories of the inhabitants of the hotel were sad and strange but the characters telling them were sweet. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The narration was awesome! Spooky season is coming and this would be a great read for it.

Didn't See That Coming
Revisado: 08-19-24
I enjoyed this audiobook very much. The story was well written and Echo was so easy to connect with. She is a strong woman for sure. You would think that her fiance dying was awful enough, but the things that she was hit with afterwards would have broken many women.
I don't want to give anything away, there is so much happening it's a bit difficult to review and not spoil anything. It's a mystery, a story about a dysfunctional family and love.
The only thing I had a problem with was the narrator. I found her a bit flat but grew used to her as the book went on. Go ahead and pick this book up if you are a suspense lover.

A rollercoaster ride
Revisado: 08-18-24
I enjoyed this book so much I didn't want to stop listening! The narrator does a great job making the characters come alive. There are so many twists and turns, rabbit holes and secrets, they never stop. I am pretty good at figuring things out but not this time, not even close. If you like a twisted, suspense filled read, run and grab this baby!

A Must Read/Listen
Revisado: 08-03-24
Estelle is a Holocaust survivor and this is her story. She was just a small girl when her family was taken to the camps. In her story she tells all, good, bad and very, very ugly. This book touched my heart in so many ways. Reading what loving parents sacrifice to keep their child alive. There were many times it was hard to listen to and yes, it did make me cry. I will never be able to wrap my head around the cruelty and pure hate shown to others just because of religion, color, whatever. These Nazi's were monsters! Yet through it all a little girl endures and becomes a survivor. Estelle also teaches us what real forgiveness looks like. Absolutely wonderful read that must be read.

wow
Revisado: 08-01-24
What goes on in this authors head to come up with these stories. This book was so twisted, so horrific and so darn good. I'll need a mental health break before reading another of his books! How far would you go for love, or hate? This family went far, really, really far! Wow.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Beware of Consultants!
Revisado: 11-03-15
What made the experience of listening to The Consultant the most enjoyable?
The narrator was awesome and the story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was smiling and cringing at the same time! I think we all have a little experience with consultants but I have never met one like this. :)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ralph......
Have you listened to any of Ramiz Monsef’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first time listening to Mr. Monsef.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES
Any additional comments?
Bentley Little is one of my favorite authors and in my opinion this is his best yet!

Worth Listening To
Revisado: 12-07-14
Would you listen to Leaving Time again? Why?
No, I never listen to or read a book twice.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I enjoyed the information about the elephants, the stories, the rituals. For me, the elephants where much more interesting then the story of Jenna.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
The narration was AWESOME! I love when books are read by numerous people. It really brings it to life for me and this cast was wonderful.
Any additional comments?
I can't say that this was Picoult's best work. I didnt find the story of Alice, Thomas and Jenna holding my attention as much as the elephants did. I will say the ending blew me away and I never saw it coming! Enjoyable read overall.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Bringing Death to Life!
Revisado: 10-11-14
Would you listen to Smoke Gets in Your Eyes again? Why?
Yes. I normally won't read or listen to a book twice but Smoke Gets in Your Eyes was not only entertaining but educational. I have no doubt that I will learn something new in the next listen.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
A hidden, non-discussed subject literally brought to life is what drew me in and held me there. I hope there are more books coming from this author.
Which scene was your favorite?
I really enjoyed the scenes telling of the witnessed cremation. I could relate to them having been there when my mother was cremated. I only wish I knew then what I learned from the book.
If you could give Smoke Gets in Your Eyes a new subtitle, what would it be?
I think the title is perfect the way it is.
Any additional comments?
I am glad that I listened to this over reading it. I feel that listening to the author read her own book totally brought it to life. Highly recommended.
