Liked the story but narration could be better
Revisado: 11-30-24
Did not like the female voice talent’s narration of this book. Had a weird cadence and was a bit singsong. Liked the story enough to bear with it.
The male narrator sounded better.

Historia
There is only one way to travel across the Wastelands: on the Trans-Siberian Express, a train as famous for its luxury as for its danger. The train is never short of passengers, eager to catch sight of Wastelands creatures more miraculous and terrifying than anything they could imagine. But on the train's last journey, something went horribly wrong, though no one seems to remember what exactly happened. Not even Zhang Weiwei, who has spent her life onboard and thought she knew all of the train’s secrets.

Narration cadence too clipped
Revisado: 08-03-24
Could not get into this but pushed myself to finish it anyway. The narration felt clipped with phrases delivered almost in the same hurried/staccato cadence. It was strange because the narrator’s delivery of dialogue was good. But the main narration just kept flying past me.

Terrible narration :(
Revisado: 11-24-23
This was hard to listen to. I could not get through even half of the first book in this bundle. The frenetic, high-pitched screechy voice is unpleasant and difficult to follow. The “woe-is-me” tone used for one of the characters makes the character sound so inane. :( I should’ve tried a sample first

Took some will to continue
Revisado: 10-22-23
Did not enjoy the narration and I almost did not continue past the first two chapters. Took several restarts and I managed to get to a part that became interesting to me and I finished it. Story was ok, a bit predictable.

Different narrator from first two
Revisado: 08-22-23
Didn’t notice that the narrator was changed for this book before I downloaded it. Just realized it as I was listening. The new narrator isn’t bad, but I found the first one to have more charm in his accent.

Historia
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

Too much coffee, not enough mystery
Revisado: 11-28-20
Really wanted to like this, as I like coffee and coffee shops and cozy mysteries. But the story went past the 60% mark without any significant movement in the plot. Most of the mystery elements were dropped towards the last 30% of the book. The writing gave me the impression that it was trying to impress readers with the sheer volume of coffee and New York facts. It felt very heavy handed and sort of elitist, and trying too hard to drive coffee obsession down the reader's throat. I wish this first book had been part of the Audible Plus library so I didn't have to spend a credit on it.

Revisado: 04-13-18
A satisfying conclusion to a wonderful series. Love all the patient set-up of details that lead to this book. I’m glad to have bought the actual (deadtree) books as well. It was such a pleasure to listen to this while reading the book and looking at the illustrations :)

Another enjoyable case
Revisado: 02-27-18
I enjoyed this despite what I think is a lack of twists. But the story being woven around real events, I found the narrative very interesting.
However I believe there was a slip in the recording— particularly in the assignment of accents. Anderson had a wonderful Irish accent until before the final chapter when suddenly he had an English accent. It confused me for a moment. But otherthan this small detail, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.
