Historia
Recognized as one of the great poets of modern times, and as a deeply respected and influential political and cultural activist and social critic, Linton Kwesi Johnson is also a prolific writer of non-fiction. Here, he selects some of his most powerful prose for the first time. Written over many decades, it is a body of work that draws creatively and critically on Johnson’s own Jamaican roots and on Caribbean history to explore the politics of race and ethnicity that continue to inform the Black British experience.

A brilliant introduction to Jamaican lyrical art
Revisado: 08-11-23
In the beginning of the first chapter, I was wondering if I’d like this book. For reasons only my white upbringing can explain, I couldn’t relate to what was being said. But I am very glad I didn’t give up after half an hour, like I normally would with an audio book I don’t immediately ‘gel’ with. LKJ explains and gives context to life that is Jamaican, ‘Rastafarai’ through reviews of fellow artists work, as well as his own. A well researched, well written prose of Jamaican rasta music and poetry, as well as other black literary writings. Thank you, to the author for educating me to life on the other side of the tracks, so to speak. This work aims to remove those proverbial tracks. I hope everyone who listens to this book comes away with more empathy and understanding and acceptance and tolerance - if you do, that’s one step towards a better world.

Historia
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

A thoughtful glimpse of life as a president in a country where racism lives everywhere
Revisado: 09-14-21
I thoroughly enjoyed the honesty of his family life and the doses of his dry humor breaking the seriousness of the subject matter.
Anyone who is feeling less than patriotic needs to read/listen to this book to be jolted back to the reality that this is truly a great president who believed in a great nation and everyone living in this country needs to live up to his belief in the good that lives within these borders.
I wonder how he feels now, post Trump, where ‘make America great again’ meant nothing more than hot air and too much twitter, and in a Biden era where the horrendous partisan politics entrenched in the reds has seeped into every pore of the blues. I know that present day politics as it is allowed to play out in the media, makes me sick to my stomach.
It’s a book like this and a president like this that keeps the glimmer of hope that decent, honest, thoughtful politics still lives and can become how the nation is governed again.
Mr. Obama, you are a special human being! It’s obvious a presidency takes it’s toll, but if there’s energy left in you, you should run again.

Ill informed, interpretational not factual
Revisado: 11-23-20
So many facts are wrong. So many facts bastardized by misinterpretation. Such bad pronunciation of words - is it really that hard to find out how to say things correctly? When you write about a great man like Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, you should be sure not to write a book like this one!
