Historia
When Alice Greczyn's parents felt called by God to exchange worldly employment for heavenly provision, they followed their faith into homelessness with five children and a cat in tow. Homeschooled and avowed never to kiss a man until her wedding day, Alice had plans to escape by becoming a missionary nurse—plans that were put on hold with the opening of an unexpected door: the opportunity to be a Hollywood actress. What followed was a test of faith unlike any she had prepared for, one that forced her to learn to survive without the only framework for life she had ever known.

Fabulous Story Telling | Lover her Voice
Revisado: 08-08-22
I just finished Chapter 2 of Wayward. Simply fabulous. Alice is wonderful at telling a story. I could feel her excitement, her anxiety, and her shame. I remember well the Toronto Blessing. Though I was in the more traditional Assembly of God I lived and pastored a church in Detroit in the 90s and Christians I knew from all over the country were flocking to that sham of insanity. Alice's retelling of her experience is by far the BEST description I have ever read. She captures the feeling of spiritual fury that swirled around this event. Her childhood stories in Chapter 1 reminded me of my own experience with Children's ministry. Except rather than the child I was the "Miss Valarie". Wow the memories that Alice's writing brought back to me are overwhelming. Now that is good writing, good storytelling. Thank You, Alice.

Historia
By July of 1944, the Third Reich's days were numbered. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a general staff insider with open eyes (and access to the Fuhrer), was convinced that assassinating Hitler was the only way to prevent the destruction of the Fatherland and the deaths of millions. On July 20, he hid a bomb-stuffed briefcase at a high-level meeting. The explosion tore through the room, but a table leg spared Hitler from the blast. The result was a witch hunt, a wave of executions, and a further pointless year of war. Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh deliver an exhilarating and definitive portrait of the anti-Nazi movement (called "Secret Germany") that almost killed Hitler. Secret Germany is the story of "World War II's boldest plot-that-failed" (Time), a coup that was a moral and spiritual necessity.

In depth Background
Revisado: 10-28-21
Whilst some have complained the book does not focus enough on the actual events of operation Valkyrie it does go into great depth about the cultural background and the "secret Germany" that deeply influenced Stauffenberg. It is this insight that makes this an incredible read. You are given a view into the Germanic past that led both to the Nazi Party and the Moral Fortitude of Claus Von Stauffenberg. This is history that is not often investigated but gives deep insight into the German culture, myth, and volksgeist. A worthy read/listen.

Excellent Insight
Revisado: 08-24-21
While he clearly states that Trump is NOT Hitler the warnings of Hitler-like traits are obvious in the Trump Personality with his anger, villainization of the "other" (immigrants), his disdain for democratic institutions. Rees's warning that democratic institutions are not as firm as we often think was shown clearly in the Trump presidency. Those who support Trump do so because of his "Charisma" which like Hitler's followers happens because of the leader strikes a familiar cord in the follower. The warning is clear that we should always be careful to give power to "strong" men whom we think will save us from "others" who may do us harm. He makes a strong link between the conspiracy theories that Hitler and many of his day believed that were completely false and the conspiracy theories that Trump and his followers believe, i.e. election was a fraud, Qanon, etc.
