An extremely educational audiobook!
Revisado: 05-09-23
I did not know most of the information contained in this book, and I venture to say most people don't! For example, did you know that excessive drinking can do permanent damage to the brain, and that only 5 percent of human decisions are conscious decisions? Or that solitary confinement in prisons does neurological damage to the brains of inmates? Studies using EEG scans have shown the horrifying damage of such lone imprisonment. I particularly like the structure of this book, with trivia questions checking the reader's retention of the material just presented. The narrator does a good job of keeping the presentation of facts fresh and lively. I recommend this audiobook.

The author received the following testimonial about this audiobook in a recent email: "My grandson (he's 20) reviewed your book. He still lives with us and while he does not always get a long with his papaw, they have somehow rebonded over your book! Each morning for three mornings Marcus has rattled off riddles from your audiobook. Highly entertaining for both guys as they try to out do one another but in a fun and engaging manner. Their belly laughs, and "boy" rivalary is hilarious at times. Other times ... like before my coffee ... "
Similar stories have been coming in steadily about how much fun family members have had in sharing these riddles. There is just something special going on here, and I suspect it is mainly the power of laughing together and competing over these silly brain busters.

Sorry to break it to you, but romantic meet-cutes are a thing of the past; swipes are in, and hope is out! Just kidding. Sort of. But do we continue to put ourselves out there? Yes. And will we be willing to move past the possibility of a disastrous encounter with a stranger? Of course.

This is essentially a game of trading questions for dating couples that's designed for people to get to know one another quickly and gauge their compatibility. It is both a challenging and fun-sounding game to loosen the tongue and mind. I would say it would be effective if both parties play along with an open, inquisitive attitude. But it also offers the user a path to exit the first date if it is not working out. Smart! Very smart!

Historia
From working as clerks and secretaries in the 1950s, women today are now holding top positions in the world’s largest corporations. Yet women remain vastly underrepresented in leadership roles, making up only 5 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs and 10 percent of top management positions in S&P 1500 companies, despite accounting for 47 percent of the labor workforce. The reason for this has nothing to do with intelligence, skills, or personality. Biases, gender expectations, and discrimination are definitely major contributing factors.

Revisado: 02-27-23
This book is well designed to prepare women for leadership roles by helping to instill great confidence, teaching collaborative leadership techniques, and sharing the secrets of servant leadership focused on customers. My favorite part is the chapter listing key characteristics of introverted leaders. I also liked the author's inspirational list of successful female leaders.

Dinos were bad news! Even some of their marine reptile relatives, like the whale-sized Kronosaurus, were nightmarish carnivores. Even the dinos' herbivorous cousins would've been nearly impossible for humans to live with or compete against if we had been around back then. That's one necessary takeaway from this jaw-dropping book of dinosaurs, many from the Crutaceaus period.
Take the Kronosaurus ... please! It had perhaps the second-strongest jaws ever found on the planet, we're told, and weighed in at 50,000 pounds, with meat-eating crocodile-like jaws! It breached the surface of the ocean like a whale, and attacked its prey from below. OK, technically it wasn't a dinosaur, but I found it to be an amazing highlight monster, so I am glad it was included in this book. Don't even get me started on that sea monster's cousin, Predator X, which had an even stronger bite force. Talk about jaws!

Historia
Enjoy a classic horror story that begins with a hair-raising "Canadian canoe" trip down the flooded Danube. The float trip lands two adventurers on a willow-covered island in the stream, amid sharp shale, rapids, rain, and howling winds. Disastrous erosion and danger soon engulfs the two men. But the campers survive a murderous attempt to secretly scuttle their canoe and steal their food supplies.

Revisado: 02-25-23
Imagine taking a rugged camping trip of hundreds of miles and stumbling upon some incomprehensively alien beings. It happens on a small willow island during a canoe trip down the Danube at flood. Are the otherworldly visitors elder gods, spirits of the dead, or merely montstrous entities? Whatever, these alien beings clearly are not up to any good, and are bent on killing the campers. Deadly sabotage, strange sights and sounds, and inexplicable developments abound as our humans are hunted and the willows close in on them. At last they are located and one giant swoops in for the kill.... No less an expert on horror stories than H.P. Lovecraft called this story the best supernatural tale in the English language. Terrific hard-won advice from a single mom!
Revisado: 02-02-23
Loved it! Having relatives and friends who are single moms I can say I will share this with them, as the advice is so clearly wise. My favorite moment was when the author said you would leave other people's judgements of you at the door. "Your child's opinion is the only one that matters." The book's most helpful advice, and there is plenty to choose from, is "don't speak ill of the other parent," as a co-parent. That is because "taking the high road works best 99 percent of the time."

Revisado: 01-31-23
This is obviously written by someone who has been a caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimers. The author shares the support and information like phone numbers, websites, and basic facts, and describes clearly how to tell the difference between ordinary mild memory loss, Alzheimers, and other forms of dementia. The author also tells how to cope with the overwhelming concerns one must face in caring for the person suffering from Dementia. This is a well-narrated book that would be a good place to start the search for information if you or someone you know has begun showing signs of significant memory loss. I recommend it.

An engrossing narrative, with many helpful tips!
Revisado: 01-20-23
This book should be helpful for anyone who has an overwhelmingly negative person in the family. I particularly liked the chapter on how to stop that toxic family member from "dumping on" you, which could apply just as well to bad acquaintances and co-workers. Of nearly equal value are the many tips for getting through dreaded family events and gatherings. (The author also explains when you would be better off simply leaving). But there is ample understanding for the "problem" family member expressed here, too. This includes a detailed explanation of why the patterns of emotional abuse often are repeated by the abused adult, and how to express some empathy and understanding for that poor soul who is plaguing your very existence. Yet ultimately the author makes it clear there are limits to how much mistreatment anyone can and must endure. He concludes there are situations in which is better to simply cut ties with that most toxic relative.
