The master at his scarifying best! From heart-pounding terror to the eeriest of whimsy - tales from the outer limits of one of the greatest imaginations of our time! Trucks that punish and beautiful teen demons who seduce a young man to massacre; curses whose malevolence grows through the years; obscene presences and angels of grace - here, indeed, is a night-blooming bouquet of chills and thrills.

Short Stories At Their Best
Revisado: 01-31-25
Loved the multiple narrators, particular Frances Sternhagen. Some stories are definitely stronger than others and the mixture of horror in with other genres like sci-fi and gothic is incredibly fun. Particular favorites were The Jaunt, Mrs. Todd’s Shortcut, The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands, & Word Processor of the Gods.

Hugh Grant an Excellent Narrator
Revisado: 12-23-24
The story is very good and I was most struck by Hugh Grant’s narration. Distinction amongst characters without being overly dramatic was a particular highlight. A really good version of a must-listen.

The definitive account of the O. J. Simpson trial, The Run of His Life is a prodigious feat of reporting that could have been written only by the foremost legal journalist of our time. First published less than a year after the infamous verdict, Jeffrey Toobin's nonfiction masterpiece tells the whole story, from the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman to the ruthless gamesmanship behind the scenes of "the trial of the century".

Really great book
Revisado: 11-20-21
I enjoyed this book a lot. Many things mentioned by other books or shows are discussed in better detail here.
Other reviewers say they don’t like the narrator, but I enjoyed his reading.
If you like to learn about the Simpson case, I highly suggest this book.

Terrible Narrator Makes Story Less Interesting
Revisado: 08-10-21
I love this book and was looking forward to the audiobook, but this narrator is terrible. Like others in the review section state, the narrator sounds like a high school student being forced to read a passage from an English textbook. Too bad. Maybe they will re-record it later on with a better narrator? Hope so.

Loved the story—music added to it
Revisado: 06-10-20
Loved the story. I noticed that other reviewers dislike the music in the background, but I found it added to the story. I would suggest listening to the sample and seeing if you like it. If not, get the non-booktrack version. The story is worth the use of one of your credits.

The story was pretty convoluted and overly confusing in my opinion. Narration was as good as ever, but this will not be a Poirot story I reread/listen to again.

Don’t skip this story and don’t skip on Franco
Revisado: 04-17-20
I loved the story. Stephen King is a master of writing realistic characters with just hints of mystery and the supernatural about them. And having James Franco as the reader was a surprisingly good choice. Some have mentioned that he is a bit monotone, but I think that works—a lot of the story is narration. He does the characters different enough to distinguish them from another. The vocal changes between dialogue, narration, and thoughts/flashes/visions was really well done. The story was riveting and well read. Highly recommend it. I am bummed that James Franco doesn’t have more narrating credits because I would absolutely listen to him again.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Came for the Narrator, stayed for the story
Revisado: 01-29-20
Big Donald Sutherland fan and so, despite the fact that I hated this book when we had to read it in high school, I bought it. All I can say is WOW. The story of this man’s struggle was so moving. Sutherland’s reading was perfect—grizzly and slow, careful and contemplative. A really perfect pairing. I would recommend anyone who hated this story in high school but are now adults to give it a try. If you don’t like it you can always swap it for something else, but give it a chance first.
