Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Mormon sister- I hear you
Revisado: 12-22-18
Tara,
I hear your words. While I am not from Idaho, I am from Utah. While not raised in this extremity of Mormonism, I was raised Mormon.
We left the church 2 years ago. Although, looking back I never was a great Mormon. I was far to “left wing” and liberal by nature.
I also am an author. My title, Gypsy Living. My search for understanding, meaning. Separate from the world I was shown as a child. And though, I have little to complain about. I was given all my wants and traveled and shown the world. It was in this exploration that my partner intentions backfired. I became a girl who saw the world for what it was.
Your book has raised more questions for me, about myself and my upbringing. Over dinner here with my husband in Southern Utah, I find myself looking even deeper into my ways. The ways in which to go, and do my life.
The search my always go on for me, as I am introspective by nature. And so I will give gratitude to your memoirs, and tell you all that I heard of Butterfly old. Not from this account, but from actually a first-hand experience, of a friend, from Idaho. Which shows me more about my life and the path I have lived, then anything else.
To that end. We can not run from where we were born. We can though, be educated.

Heartfelt powerhouse
Revisado: 11-30-18
God I love these stories that tell the truth about life, success and the Demons we all have. I loved Abby’s cut throat descriptions and honesty to her character. Her spirit of love and dedication to her own journey and the ways in which she hid were both inspiring and real. Loved!

Researcher and thought leader Dr. Brené Brown offers a powerful new vision that encourages us to dare greatly: to embrace vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously engage in our lives. In Daring Greatly, Dr. Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. Based on 12 years of research, her book argues that vulnerability is not weakness but rather our clearest path to courage, engagement, and meaningful connection.

Nailed it!
Revisado: 05-16-17
I don't think Brene knows she's a gypsy, but she is! As I listened with my whole heart I realize how she puts so elegantly what I have felt in my heart. As I wrote my book Gypsy Living I felt the truth of her words describe in a new light, what I described a different way. Her work is complimentary not only to my book but to my life. I am grateful for this powerful book and for the new depths my understanding now go. While here is much to yet discover, this book validated for me so much of what I believe our souls already understand. ❤️

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Aligns with my Gypsy Spirit!
Revisado: 04-06-17
What a phenomenal book! I just wrote Gypsy Living while my family and I lived in Puerto Rico. I adored that she had researched so many of the heart felt qualities I talk about in my book. I love the explanations and definitions she gives us to awaken our intuition and find ourselves again. I love that she addresses shame and worthiness, as I feel like those are at the heart of all of our issues.❤

She Walked In Late and We Became Friends
Revisado: 02-09-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Get a PhD in YOU to be better than the print version?
Julie is a beautiful human. I love her open heart and ability to transcend time and space in order to lift others. Julie's audio is better for me than the book because I like to clean and do dishes as I listen. For me it is powerful to listen and when I need to write something down I am called to take ACTION and go sit down, get a paper and pencil and write it down. The act of listening moves me and I love learning this way.
What did you like best about this story?
I actually loved hearing from Julie how she had to write the book in cloud bubbles in order to get the information out of her head and onto paper! WHO does that? How awesome! How driven! How inspired! And how determined Julie is.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was not in the book. It was hearing Julie explain in a small intimate circle and also straight to my face the vulnerability that she has, I have and that we all experience in life. Julie is on a journey, just like you and I. Maybe you will write a book like her and I, and maybe you will not. Either way each and every lesson Julie teaches and goes over in her book is an opportunity for you to go one layer deeper into understanding yourself, who you are and how valuable you are.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
All of it! I love all!
Any additional comments?
Julie and I got to know each other at The Best Year Ever Conference in San Diego. I am so glad she came in late and that we connected. She was drawn to me and my energy, and I was of course delighted to get to know this wonder woman.
Life is about finding our tribes and supporting each other in our dreams. Go for the Moon Sister and keep throwing out that GLITTER!

Defend CHECK! Loved it!
Revisado: 12-29-14
What did you love best about How to Defend Yourself in 3 Seconds (or Less!)?
I loved how it grabbed me right from the beginning. I am not an avid fighter. I am a wife, mother, fitness and nutrition expert, and creator of a online transformation program. I have knowledge and experience in the field of fitness. One thing I love about being in this industry I is the constant drive I have to learn more. It has been said that martial arts is the fastest growing sport in America, I believe it and I have seen it come into my own life with first my son, then my daughter and now my husband. We love it!
I love the concept of preparedness, not only in martial arts but in life! That is what fitness is all about, being prepared with our mind and our body absolutely goes with everything I believe in about life.
Psychology is everything and this concept also bleeds out of this book and into our daily lives.
I loved the voice of Rob Actis, I have listened to a few books that I could not stand the voice, thankfully this book was easy listening and easy to follow because of the enjoyable way in which Rob unveils these secrets and keeps true to the authors intent!
What did you like best about this story?
To believe in our-self. To let our body react how it should. That we all have the ability to succeed and be winners.
Which character – as performed by Rob Actis – was your favorite?
I loved listening to Rob! He is amazing and his voice was perfect. Not too over the top and not too dull. I felt this performance of his was top notch and I actually looked up other books that he has done because of it!
At first I did not think it was a big deal (the voice I listened too) but then I downloaded one I detested and now I always listen first! :) The voice does matter and I loved how Rob uses his voice to engage, enlighten and enthuse! You are amazing Rob!
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
1,2,3
Avoid the Threat
Counter Attacking
Remove
Easy, loved it.
Distraction and evasion, I also loved. It inspires one to use our brain in sticky situations!
Any additional comments?
Defend yourself is an empowering book on how to be prepared, especially when we need to defend ourselves. Many of us may think that nothing like this would ever happen to us, until it does. Many of us may think we know what we would do in this type of situation, and yet we know that unless we are prepared both mentally and physically we can fall victim.
My family loves jiu jitsu and our amazing instructor. I even did it once! I need to get back there and this book inspired me to do so! We have learned so much through this sport. I took my 8 year old out of dance and gym and into this art form to gain confidence, she is a different person. These tactics are real, they are amazing and they work.
As a mother I found this book hugely helpful for my brain to understand more about what is going on.
This book helped me feel more prepared on both accounts. I loved it and feel empowered!
