Good message overall.

I didn’t want to like this book. I kept listening and kept getting something out of the advice and I found myself thinking about this again and again in my daily life. I find it useful. And being a 46 year-old woman who’s had a lot of life lessons this would’ve come in handy. Practical, useful advice.

Mediocre but fun.

Nice, easy read. I frequently would forget which character I was reading and found the story to be a bit juvenile but overall I finish the book and enjoyed it.

Historia
Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions—and feel incredible today—is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function—the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr. Casey Means explains in this book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create “good energy,” the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our wellbeing.

Best Nutrition Book You’ll Ever Read!
Revisado: 10-24-24
Best candid, honest nutrition advice I’ve ever read for the middle class American. Taken from a different angle of energy and cellular function rather than “this is what you should eat everyday”, this was more motivating to initiate change for myself and my children.
She says it in the book to question everything, even her.
For example, as a dental hygienist she says to use toothpaste with no fluoride. I see this frequently in the dental office and see the risk vs benefit analysis with rampant decay without meticulous oral hygiene and it is a generally a disaster, so I would disagree with this statement, as tooth loss is also associated with longevity of life. She also talks about moderation of alcohol, but talks about abstaining from everything else, which makes no sense. There may be a realistic view in here about awareness and enjoyment of life.
The end becomes very repetitive but it does make sure you remember. Most ideas I’m open to, some are so far from our industrial world I would have to find middle ground but she gives a scale to work with. Let’s see if my family and I can feel our best in this life.

1820: Sophia Ashmore-Percy reluctantly accompanies her husband James to a remote Greek island, where he searches for rare biological specimens. Once there, however, she sets on her own voyage of discovery—stumbling across the very creature he is looking for, making an unexpected connection with a local woman, and ultimately reconsidering her marriage, life, and own desires. Decades later, audiologist Henry Latimer is sent to the home of industrialist Sir Edward Ashmore-Percy and tasked with curing the man’s young daughter, Philomel, of her deafness.

Took 4 hours to understand what was going on, and was decent after that. Nothing phenomenal, but did finish the book so that says something.

Thinking I needed to have studied Shakespeare when starting this book, I was delighted and sucked into the story, knowing a little more and appreciating the writing and theatrical element of this book. What a wonderful story and great mystery.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
Thelonious "Monk" Ellison's writing career has bottomed out: his latest manuscript has been rejected by seventeen publishers, which stings all the more because his previous novels have been "critically acclaimed." He seethes on the sidelines of the literary establishment as he watches the meteoric success of We's Lives in Da Ghetto, a first novel by a woman who once visited "some relatives in Harlem for a couple of days."

A whirlwind of a story!
Revisado: 03-06-24
I was reading this book for a book club, so this wasn’t my typical read. I was a bit lost with the stories going back-and-forth, but once I got sucked in, it was excellent! I would imagine if I had a little more knowledge about literature this may have been easier for me in the beginning.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Catholicism or faith?
Revisado: 02-15-24
Well, I enjoyed this book very much it encompasses a man’s journey with faith and his mom‘s devotion to the Catholic Church. I guess all wrapped up in it was a happy ending with conversion because one of his biggest wishes came true. Oh religion.

Step 1: You admit that you're powerless over your addiction. Now what? Twelve-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) have helped countless people on the path to recovery. But many still feel that 12-step programs aren't for them: that the spiritual emphasis is too narrow, the modality too old-school, the setting too triggering, or the space too exclusive. Some struggle with an addict label that can eclipse the histories, traumas, and experiences that feed into addiction, or dismisses the effects of adverse experiences like trauma in the first place.

Better understanding of Trauma in Recovery
Revisado: 10-31-23
After 20 years in recovery, I had had some conflict with the 12 steps in my own recovery. This book helped give me some clarity on where I was bumping heads. It also will give me some grace walking in the future, and be more gentle with myself and others.
