While reading each novel of the series, I told myself that I would skip the rest. The storyline was good and Khavari a talented writer, The book dragged on. With this book I found that the only character that I really liked was Lee, and he hardly showed up. He seemed to be the only REAL person in the books. I'm tired of Saffron waffling back and forth and getting angry every several pages. Alexander seems insipid. I find myself finishing sentences for them and rolling my eyes frequently. Why purchase the next installment? That's where Khavari is wise. She leaves you with, while not a cliffhanger, but wondering and hoping that the next book will solidify the relationships. While I would not tell anyone not to bother with the books, I'm pretty certain that I will not use my credits to further the series. When the characters annoy one for the most part, it's time to move on.

Overall, the book was well written. As an adult and a retired teacher, I enjoy books written for young adults and middle schoolers. My problem with this book is the death of two characters, one of which was a beloved pet of a girl who had no one else at that time in her life. I realize that death is a reality. I believe, however, that young people have enough fear, uncertainty, and grief in their real lives that books they read for pleasure should have a positive ending. In the Harry Potter series, there were multiple deaths. Some were of very popular characters. These tragedies, however, were carried out in seven books. The message of "hope" to which this book alluded, however, was of little comfort.

Normally CJ Archer is a favorite author of mine. This book missed the mark in my opinion. For one thing, I think the characters were too young. seventeen and nineteen. The premise of the story was a bit far-fetched even for paranormal books. The "heroine" of the story is a tad simpering and unrealistic. And let's face it, the "hero" is dead.... unless she's willing to give up the "ghost" (her own, that is) there really isn't a happy ending here. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, this wasn't. This is only my opinion. I'm certain there are many who will love it. I will continue to look forward to CJ Archer write other novels, but I will not be continuing this series.

I have enjoyed the series and am looking forward to the final book. The only problem, in my opinion, is the speed (or lack thereof) of the narrator. I had to put it on 105-110 to feel it was at a normal speaking speed. And she mispronounced Archimedes which made me cringe each time she said it. Other than that, she did a good job.

The story, itself, might have been a very good one. Unfortunately, it went on far too long. It is difficult to enjoy a book when one cannot feel liking nor empathy for ANY of the characters. Lydia is whiney and rather dull-witted. I would have liked to at least feel sorry for Katherine, but she was portrayed as a Disney evil stepsister with absolutely nothing to soften her edges. Even Emmaline was unlikeable, although killing her off was unnecessary. I did like Snip! Surprised the author didn't feel it a good idea to kill him off. Even John was a bit tiresome.

The narrator did not help the story, either. She had some very good moments but only when there were verbal arguments. The rest of the time, her delivery was whiney and pedantic. I'm glad I bought this book on sale.

As was said by others, I didn't see that this was abridged. I normally will not purchase an abridged book. that having been said, I was actually glad it wasn't longer than it was. Our heroine seemed extremely willing to jump into bed with pretty much every guy in the story. Soul mate or not, I found it a tad much.

I've read other Jude Deveraux books about time travel. Knight in Shining Armor was good, although the heroin crying every few minutes became redundant. this one, in my opinion, did not have the depth that KSA had.

The narrator was fine but seemed to speak so softly that I found it hard to hear her. Alas, the book is not eligible for return or it would be.

I have always been a Nora Roberts fan and have enjoyed almost all of her books, especially the trilogies. Of those I did not "love", I was still able to get through. Not Public Secrets. The narration, while it improved once the "cockney" accent was no longer exaggerated.

I have mostly gotten used to Robert's penchant for sprinkling her books with the F word, this book seemed to be especially free with it.

Mostly, it was just too long and drawn out and I did not feel a particular connection to the characters. I'm sorry I used a precious credit on a book that I will never finish.

I have read all six novels waiting for Melanie to grow up...she never does. Hard to completely like a book when you dislike the main character. The narrator, while obviously talented, often slips in and out of a southern accent...the accent, when used, sounds more like antebellum Georgia than the low country of South Carolina. When Jack leaves the house, I half expected her to say "after all, tomorrow is another day"! Having said all this, I've already pre-purchased the next book in the vain hope that the characters grow up. Seems that Nola and Jane are the only two adults right now.

I REALLY did not like the main character. She came around eventually, of course, but she was pretty much an unsympathetic jerk for most of the story. Hard for me to like a character who dislikes dogs and children. Glad I got the book on sale....I don't return books as a rule but I was tempted!
