Historia
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

An Inspiring Memoir
Revisado: 01-31-23
I would recommend this memoir to everyone but especially women, or any minority population all-too-often marginalized by our society. I have dealt with adversity, living most of my life totally blind the result of a brain tumor. Though the details of my experience are very different from Michelle’s, I could relate to many of her anxieties, especially the question “am I good enough?” I also appreciated her honesty, from questioning her decision to study law, to admitting to urban students affected by gun violence that they could not count on Washington. Yet her positive outlook on the course of her life, and her call for optimism is affirming.

Unimaginative Text
Revisado: 08-04-22
Speaking as someone who has been blind all my life, I did not like this book. It wasn’t that the information presented wasn’t accurate. It was. It just seemed unimaginative and preachy. I also thought the final sentence about blind kids doing karate was random and seemed out of place with the rest of the story. I understand the point the author might have been trying to make, that blind kids can enjoy the same activities as any other kid, but this could have been presented in a less awkward way, and I think children would engage better with this information presented as a story, with a character who is blind.

Historia
Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

A Well-Performed, Enjoyable Story
Revisado: 07-29-20
I always enjoy books narrated by their authors because the author can narrate it with the tone and emotion they intended. I especially enjoyed this author’s narration which felt more like he was casually talking to me rather than reading. The topic itself, the impact cafeine, especially the cafeine found in coffee, has had on modern society, is fascinating too.
