5 Star 🌟
Revisado: 04-29-25
The past and present were given just enough detail to keep me engrossed in the story, without feeling like filler. The explanation on Henry's internal feeling was really well done, and the fact that Addie seemed to help him not get over it, but to LIVE with it was perfect. The voice acting really brought the character's to life.

Great Read
Revisado: 04-20-25
The character's were both imperfect and twists. It was a little obvious to me where the story was going, but I enjoyed the ride nonetheless. The sorrow felt was heartbreaking, but despite their circumstances, the women in this novel learned to live with their pain and soldier on to make lives of their own.

Solid cozy story
Revisado: 04-12-25
This was a solid cozy story, with a few climactic moments. However, those moments were a little too fleeting. I think it could have been better had Durst cut some of those tiny climaxes to really build the intensity of the more important issues.

Historia
Cordelia knows her mother is . . . unusual. Their house doesn’t have any doors between rooms—there are no secrets in this house—and her mother doesn't allow Cordelia to have a single friend. Unless you count Falada, her mother's beautiful white horse. The only time Cordelia feels truly free is on her daily rides with him. But more than simple eccentricity sets her mother apart. Other mothers don’t force their daughters to be silent and motionless for hours, sometimes days, on end. Other mothers aren’t sorcerers.

Slow start that made total sense
Revisado: 03-27-25
As the title states this started slow, but it was a great reflection of how restrictive and flat Cordelia's life had been. Her mother was the epitome of a narcissistic monster. I loved the found family vibes, even if it was being overshadowed with an air of don. Overall it was a good story and I really engorged the voice acting, especially for Cordelia & Hester.

Historia
In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.

Mysterious Historical with a Sci-Fi Twist?
Revisado: 03-18-25
The mystery was interesting, and it wasn't something that you could just guess. I wish the character's personalities were a bit more fleshed out as all the characters seemed a little surface level. I'm not a romance reader, but the two being together for a brief moment at the end almost seemed unnecessary. There were hints that something was there, but the lack of building their relationship made it seem like an afterthought. With all that said, I did overall enjoy the story.

Tidy End which left room for additional tales

I loved this series. It had adventure, fantasy, light (but not gratuitous) romance and found family vibes. I also liked the extra stories we got along the way to add more context into the folk.

Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

Nerdy Fantasy
Revisado: 02-28-25
The scholarly nature of this book made it such a great listen. It was very detailed, but not in a way some books add details seemingly to pad out pages. The voice acting was prefect for the respective characters!

Historia

Found family fantasy
Revisado: 02-18-25
Marra was naive throughout the novel, naive & self deprecating. I believe this was meant to make her relatable, but for the longest time or seemed almost childlike. She came into her own, but even by the end with all she did she still didn't seem sure if herself. With that being said, the found family vibes were good, not cozy, but it wasn't meant to be.

A peak into the mindset of a patriarchal bourgeoisie society
Revisado: 02-10-25
This novel was a slow burn. The various perspectives from the the past & present culminated to a gripping story. I hate how Alice lived her life, but she never really had the opportunity to develop her own person, resulting in her being the victim of her circumstances at the cost of her children & her sanity. Make sure you pay attention or you could easily get lost, as there are pieces of many peoples' lives being told, but the point in time changes.

Exciting modern with a twist on time travel
Revisado: 02-02-25
Loved the storyline. I'm a fan of timetravel elements, and appreciated that this one was not super predictable. The gorey bits with the woman to be descriptive enough, both in what was occurring and in the emotional state of the onlookers. Excellent listen, and the voice acting was great!
