Historia
When Ben reads his fortune-cookie fortune, he's alarmed and inspired. Immediately, he begins drafting a bucket list of unfinished tasks and lifelong dreams (finish his 1000-piece model of the Taj Mahal, eat an entire cake, etc.). As Ben marches himself in and out of trouble, takes useful risks, and helps both his parents to see the bigger picture, readers discover how something that seems scary can instead be empowering - leading to friendships that might never have been made, neighbors that might never have been known, and apple pies that might otherwise never have been baked.

Similes make me smile.
Revisado: 04-15-23
Similes and hijinks abound like fortune cookies in an American Chinese restaurant. It's super sweet, but not like eating a whole cake in one sitting. It's more like a delicious apple pie. Good for your soul.

Have you ever wanted to learn a language or pick up an instrument, only to become too daunted by the task at hand? Expert performance guru Anders Ericsson has made a career of studying chess champions, violin virtuosos, star athletes, and memory mavens. Peak condenses three decades of original research to introduce an incredibly powerful approach to learning that is fundamentally different from the way people traditionally think about acquiring a skill.

There is no such thing as natural talent.
Revisado: 09-04-22
Early in the text, I was annoyed by the seeming arrogance of the author. I am very glad that I continued. One, I think I misjudged him in my haste to get to the meat of the text. Two, I think that there are practical ways that I can change my instruction that will help my students develop stronger skills because I read this.
I plan to reread this book and bookmark certain sections to focus on and then try to use that information to further develop my skills in teaching. All my kids can learn and succeed at higher levels than we imagine.
