Historia
There is no position in pro sports more important than an NFL quarterback. But quarterbacking was the exclusive domain of white players for many years, and when Doug Williams and Vince Evans arrived in the league in the late 1970s, they got death threats, faced racist questions, and knew that a single mistake could end their careers. The Great Black Hope tells the twin stories of Vince Evans, an electrifying dual-threat quarterback ahead of his time, and of Doug Williams, the first Black quarterback to become a champion.

Book Review: The Great Black Hope By Jason Reid
Revisado: 04-08-25
The Great Black Hope is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the journey and impact of Black quarterbacks in the National Football League. Jason Reid takes listeners through decades of challenges, breakthroughs, and triumphs that have reshaped the NFL’s most high-profile position. The book isn’t just about football—it’s about representation, systemic barriers, and the resilience of athletes who refused to be sidelined.
Reid’s storytelling gives voice to pioneers like Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham, and Doug Williams, while connecting their legacies to today’s stars like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. This book is essential for anyone who wants to understand how race intersects with sports and leadership in America.
I highly recommend taking the time to listen to this book. It provides context to today’s NFL and offers a deeper appreciation for the athletes who changed the game—both on and off the field. It’s a must-hear for football fans, students of history, and those passionate about social justice.

Historia
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination; it's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life.

Revisado: 01-15-25
Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven is a beautifully written, thought-provoking story that left me deeply moved. It follows Eddie, an ordinary man with an extraordinary journey in the afterlife, where he meets five people who reveal how their lives were interconnected with his.
The book is a profound exploration of purpose, forgiveness, and the impact we unknowingly have on others. Albom’s ability to weave together poignant lessons with heartfelt storytelling makes this a truly unforgettable read.
I highly recommend The Five People You Meet in Heaven to anyone looking for an inspiring and thought-provoking read. It’s a book that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

She’s too busy to accept a new job, but doing this favor for the grandmother of her childhood sweetheart delays a painful decision she must make about her controlling boyfriend. In his own words, the heavyweight champion of the world pulls no punches as he chronicles the battles he faced in and out of the ring in this fascinating memoir edited by Nobel Prize-winning novelist, Toni Morrison. Growing up in the South, surrounded by racial bigotry and discrimination, Ali fought not just for a living, but also for respect and rewards far more precious than money or glory. He was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated and the BBC.

We each have a destiny. Finding the courage to drive past the challenges, the pains, and even the shortcuts of life to the deeper purpose of living is to thrive in one's divine destiny. Most people have sensed destiny pulling them to just the right place or person. Whether it is the spouse you meet, the children you bear, or the promotion you receive, everyone has a purpose to pursue. Sometimes it is understanding our destiny that helps us accept what on the surface appears to be failure.

Historia
Academics, journalists, and popular historians agree: our greatest presidents are the ones who confronted a national crisis and mobilized the entire nation to face it. That’s the conventional wisdom. The chief executives who are celebrated in textbooks and placed in the top echelon of presidents in surveys of experts are the bold leaders - the Woodrow Wilsons and Franklin Roosevelts - who reshaped the United States in line with their grand “vision” for America. Unfortunately, along the way, these “great” presidents inevitably expanded government - and shrank our liberties.

The theological hogwash in this book is an F
Revisado: 06-12-22
There was moments in this book that I thought it would be promising and not so divisive but as I continue to listen to it it just got worse and worse. Really this is the most one-sided depiction of our presidency that I’ve ever listen to. I think whoever put this book together clearly was a conservative Republican and did not look objectively across all of the leaders the same.
