Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Slow and focused on virtue signaling and not dragons.

Intriguing premise. Beautifully executed
Revisado: 04-19-25
Don’t usually like apocalyptic fantasies as they can be depressing. However the pace, characters & performances are nuanced and somewhat optimistic with distinct personalities. Loved the pacing- it’s fast paced but doesn’t feel stressful. Loved the format of multiple perspectives

Historia
In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Beam Piper's 1962 sci-fi classic Little Fuzzy, written with the full cooperation of the Piper Estate, Jack Holloway works alone for reasons he doesnt care to talk about. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

Witty, heartfelt and timely story
Revisado: 02-23-25
Love John scalzi’s characters and stories and this is no exception. He always manages to take something that is an allegory for the crap that humanity puts each other and nature through- and finds a clever and uplifting spin without being saccharine, losing the wit or making thr main characters black & white. Will Wheaton has light sardonic narration which keeps it at a brisk pace

Delightful listen. Tracee’a sardonic delivery & taraji’s energy & their chemistry make a cliched script into something pretty great

Historia
London, April 1812. Eighteen-year-old Lady Helen Wrexhall is on the eve of her debut presentation to the Queen. Her life should be about gowns and dancing, and securing a suitable marriage. Instead, when one of her family's housemaids goes missing, Lady Helen is drawn to the shadows of Regency London. There, she finds William, the Earl of Carlston. He has noticed the disappearance, too, and is one of the few who can stop the perpetrators: a cabal of powerful demons that has infiltrated every level of society.

Story structure’s uneven/it’s forgettable
Revisado: 06-25-24
Read the reviews and was excited as it was recommended by audible (their engine needs work!). Bought it based on the preview but that was misleading- like when they put all the jokes in the trailer.
Although a fantastic narrator, the main character is super wet which is appropriate to the character arc in written form but as an audiobook I tuned out so much of the time that I’m returning. And the writing and story doesn’t standout enough with so many similar ones to warrant the flat parts.

Witness the epic battle of the cyclops! Visit the endangered dragon preserve! Please, no slaying. Solve the mystery of The Mystery Cottage, if you dare! Buy some knickknacks from The Fates! They might come in handy later. On a road trip across an enchanted America, Helen and Troy will discover all this and more. If the curse placed upon them by an ancient god doesn't kill them or the pack of reluctant orc assassins don't catch up to them, Helen and Troy might reach the end their journey in one piece, where they might just end up destroying the world.

My fave narrator disappointed me
Revisado: 05-06-24
Not a super fan of this writer - their stories and arcs are repetitive and it gets forgettable really quickly. The reason I got this one was I love love this narrator who can elevate anything except their cockney or whatever British isles it was supposed to be accent was so dreadful it took me out of the story. Maybe theyre better at the posh accents but for this one, the producers should have paid for a good accent coach. I’m returning

Good story & female narrator
Revisado: 02-25-24
Like the main female character and her slightly wry tone. Male narrator, who mainly does the chapter headings, has the wrong tone. The story is good, not gripping, and would have liked more on the female friendship

Good laugh & great performances
Revisado: 10-31-23
Set in India during British colonization and combines this with Indias struggle for independence, mother/son and class/caste dynamics, and misogyny. Obviously doesn’t go too deep into any but these different dynamics keep the story and pacing interesting. And strong writing makes it funny

Annoying main character and flattish narrator
Revisado: 06-28-23
Lacks the wit and personality of the River of London series.
the world building is interesting with the action sequences the best part. It’s got well paced narration but the narrator really kept the English middle class stiff upper lip. it doesn’t help that main character’s internal dialogue and personality is wet and generally annoying. Everyone else is sort of one dimensional especially the women.
