Historia
Journalist Michael Booth has lived among the Scandinavians for more than 10 years, and he has grown increasingly frustrated with the rose-tinted view of this part of the world offered up by the Western media. In this timely audiobook, he leaves his adopted home of Denmark and embarks on a journey through all five of the Nordic countries to discover who these curious tribes are, the secrets of their success, and, most intriguing of all, what they think of one another.

Historia
Craig was the last person anyone would have expected to open an American diner in Paris. He came from humble beginnings in a working-class town in Connecticut, had never worked in a restaurant, and didn't know anything about starting a brand-new business. But from his first visit to Paris, Craig knew he had found the city of his dreams. Pancakes in Paris is the story of Craig tackling the impossible - from raising the money to fund his dream to tracking down international suppliers for "exotic" American ingredients, and even finding love along the way.

Absolutely loved it!
Revisado: 12-01-21
Initially, I was intrigued by the title of the book. As a citizen of America, I know full well that here the American Dream is dead. Cost of living has quickly outpaced wages so very few people live this dream. The standard of living here is in the toilet and we have virtually no worker protection laws. I enjoy travel memoirs as well so it was a good combination book to listen to. It surpassed my expectations in the narration, details included, and overall storyline. From the initial difficulties of starting a new business and overseas nonetheless to the expected and unexpected challenges of operating a restaurant, this book was enjoyable enough to always look forward to my time hearing it on a daily basis. I have no complaints only applause for this outstanding book. In particular, I enjoyed learning about France Labor Law. It was true, that at least one European country really did take care of its people. Oh, and to hear the cost of Healthcare, wow, the French did not go broke from one stay in the hospital. Just a $20,000 ER visit will do that in America. Well done, Craig, it was a great pleasure to enjoy your book! I hope you enjoy many five-week vacations as part of your American Dream. Merci!

I enjoyed listening to the adventures of working in the National Parks as a first responder. What a challenging job to take on. I feel grateful knowing there are dedicated people in the parks, doing their best to keep everyone safe.

Historia
Teetering awkwardly on the brink of insanity, unable to handle life in snowy, cold, ultra-conservative North Idaho, Carl and Erin sold their house and set out in search of a new place to call home. Suddenly finding themselves completely free of responsibilities, jobless, and with a little spare cash in the bank, it didn't take long before their serious search for a new life took some unexpected twists and turns. This is the story of what day-to-day life is really like on one of America's greatest trails.

Thought it was great! Funny, fascinating and educational. I could have done without constant updates on miles traveled distance left, etc. But it was still fun to listen to.

Historia
In 1954, 63-year-old Maine farmer Annie Wilkins embarked on an impossible journey. She had no money and no family, she had just lost her farm, and her doctor had given her only two years to live. But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean before she died. She ignored her doctor’s advice to move into the county charity home. Instead, she bought a cast-off brown gelding named Tarzan, donned men’s dungarees, and headed south in mid-November, hoping to beat the snow.

so-so
Revisado: 05-21-20
The story was ok. I really just wanted to hear how the little girl did. The narrator was awful for this story. She did not match the writer from what I could tell. When she would yell it was the worst. Could have been better with a different narrator.

What an amazing story
Revisado: 01-04-20
I really enjoyed this book though I felt so bad for Dr Youn in all he goes through trying to become a doctor then trying to set up a practice. I always enjoy the patient profiles and what they are needing in plastic surgery. The variety of patients Dr. Youn makes it all the more interesting. Highly recommend this book.

Historia
For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Fascinated by our pervasive terror of dead bodies, mortician Caitlin Doughty set out to discover how other cultures care for their dead. In rural Indonesia, she observes a man clean and dress his grandfather's mummified body. Grandpa's mummy has lived in the family home for two years, where the family has maintained a warm and respectful relationship. She meets Bolivian natitas (cigarette-smoking, wish-granting human skulls) and introduces us to a Japanese kotsuage.

Another Amazing Book from this Author
Revisado: 11-17-19
Caitlin Doughty has done it again. She has written an entertaining, educational, fascinating, and much needed book for our time. It's past time to be afraid of death and with her twist of humor she did a wonderful job of showing how death does not need to be feared but embraced. When I see her name on a book I get so excited because what she has written so far has been spectacular. She is also a terrific narrator. Looking forward to her next title!
