The only real non-positive I have about this audiobook is that there was a time or two where Ron Schneider restarts a line, which took me out of the story. It's a rare and minor thing. The man's voice is so well suited to telling stories that it was easy to fall back into the tale he was telling afterwards, hence why I didn't knock a star off.

You can tell he loves his craft and wants others to be as passionate about it, either in performing or watching, as well. The stories are at times almost too wild (working next to a grown lion) and full of wonderful coincidences (meeting a child actor who shared the screen with WC Fields) to seem like the actually happened. As they say, life is stranger than fiction. For people wanting to get into performing, he has tips at the end of the book that I feel would be worth a full reading of his book.

Fun but not fulfilling its potential

This was a fun read, or listen rather, but I felt like the book was in need of some heavy editing. For the most part it's light hearted and fun, a sort of fantasy slice of life story about how a kid basically becomes an unstoppable god by sheer accident. About half way through a character that was a funny foil is suddenly revealed to be a villain, with no foreshadowing at his true nature and that threw me out of the story. Not to mention the dissonance between everything before that and the sudden evil man and his evil plan. Only for him to be dispatched soon afterwards and another villain to sprout up. The ending felt less like a conclusion to this story and more like a third party just said "don't want to get over 18 hours, so we'll stop here". With how this is written, it doesn't feel like a story with a concrete conclusion. I think this story could have been chopped and edited into to two, maybe three great books, but instead is just one solid lump of an alright story. It might sound like I'm hating on it, but I don't. I'm just disappointed by the fact that there's so much potential in the story but it falls too short of it.

Also the narration by Mare Trevathan is fantastic! Regardless of my issues with the book, I'd almost recommend listening to it just for her performances. I fear if that I read just the text, I might not have liked the book as much.
