Historia
When a teenage boy dies suspiciously on Halloween night, Salem's chief of police, John Rafferty, now married to gifted lace reader Towner Whitney, wonders if there is a connection between his death and Salem's most notorious cold case, a triple homicide dubbed The Goddess Murders, in which three young women, all descended from accused Salem witches, were slashed on Halloween night in 1989. He finds unexpected help in Callie Cahill, the daughter of one of the victims newly returned to town.

Hint: Increase the Speed
Revisado: 03-22-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
While I quite enjoyed Alyssa Bresnahan's narration of The Lace Reader, I found that Ann Marie Lee's measured pace on The Fifth Petal was much too slow for me. While I understand that the perspective was that of a different character, Bresnahan's pace and animation added an element to the first book which I found to be missing in the second. I considered returning the book, but I decided to increase the speed to 1.5x. It made for for odd intonation every so often, but definitely reduced the aggravation factor for me!
Would you be willing to try another one of Ann Marie Lee’s performances?
It would need to be more appropriate selection of material. Lee's style did not enhance my enjoyment of this particular work, but she was clear and pleasant.

Not worth the time, or the credit.
Revisado: 03-02-13
What disappointed you about Gabriel's Inferno?
Oh, so many things... I found the heroine exasperating and unconvincing (gods of romance, please, please let her grow a spine). The character of the antihero unfortunately garnered neither depth nor dimension from his prenchant for whores or evident foot fetish. The narration was flat, uninspired, and quite painfully s-l-o-w. Frequently pubescent and demeaning imagery, particularly with reference to the heroine (alternately likenened to either a "little kitten" or rabbit) was the final straw.
Has Gabriel's Inferno turned you off from other books in this genre?
Most probably.
What didn’t you like about John Morgan’s performance?
Why would Mr. Morgan choose to s-l-o-w down a project which he so obviously did not enjoy? Listening was nearly painful. I did try "2X"ing the speed, but it wasn't enough to get me through even half of the book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Irritation and disappointment, I wanted it to be so much more than it actually was.

Engaging story
Revisado: 11-17-11
I enjoy throrough character development and Alice Hoffman is always a favorite. I was not disappointed in either the story or the characters. Unfortunately, I did find that I had some difficulties listening to the first narrator. While her voice is clear and her enunciation very good, I sometimes found her rhythm distracting. At one point I actually increased the speed in order to make my way through a passage. I recommend the book, but would caution that listeners may need to take occasional breaks.
