Historia
Six chefs are preparing to compete in an outdoor tent at Storyton Hall for prizes that will boost their careers - but is there someone who can't stand the heat? It looks that way when one of the contestants is found dead in a pantry packed with two centuries' worth of cookbooks, among other treasures and rarities. Could there be a connection to other recent events in town, like tampering with the costume of a local mascot? Jane isn't sure, but after someone serves a second course of murder, the kitchen must be closed and the killer must be found.

Downton Abbey has brought out the Anglophile in American fans of the hit TV series. But Anglophilia has a long history in America. Why are some native-born residents of our Shining City Upon a Hill, where All Men Are Created Equal, seduced by the fluting tones of manor-born privilege? At last, Anglophilia explained - in American, thank you.

Didn't like this at all
Revisado: 03-05-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I thought this was going to be a humorous explanation of all things British, like suet pudding, how they call potato chips, crisps etc. Maybe the history of high tea, and other things like that.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Definitely nothing by this author.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
It wasn't a story per se.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
The narrator was good but I didn't like the book itself.

Historia
Melbourne, Australia, 1929. The year starts off for glamorous private investigator Phryne Fisher with a rather trying heat wave and more mysteries than you could prod a parasol at. Simultaneously investigating the apparent suicide death of a man on St Kilda beach and trying to find a lost, illegimate child who could be heir to a wealthy old woman's fortune, Phryne needs all her wits about her, particularly when she has to tangle with a group of thoroughly unpleasant Bright Young Things.

I think the sexual content is unnecessary because the story is good without that. I love all of the period details.

Fantastic story, excellant narration
Revisado: 07-10-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Redoubt to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version but I loved listening to the audio book.
What other book might you compare Redoubt to and why?
Tamora Pierce's Circle series as well as the Tortall books because they both feature characters that grow from often humble origins to achieve their destinies. I also hope Nick get hired to narrate the Owl series of books by Mercedes Lackey.
Have you listened to any of Nick Podehl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I didn't think I had but when I checked my library, I realized that I did have another book that he narrated. He did a great job on the other book but I really enjoyed his narration of this series. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series that won't be released until November (I think). I really hope they get Nick to narrate Owlflight, Owlsight and Owlknight from Mercedes Lackey. They are some of my favorite books that she has written and I can't think of a better narrator for the series.
I had no idea how popular Nick was and how many books he has narrated. I will definitely check out some of the other books strictly on basis of his narration of this series.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A story of a boy taken literally from rags to . . . Herald?
Any additional comments?
I started listening to the first of the Collegium Chronicles books and was brought back into the wonderful world of Valdemar. I normally listen to books as I drive to work or when running errands. This time I couldn't stop listening and had to continue in my house. I think I listened to all four books in about a week.

Great Story, Great Listen
Revisado: 03-26-13
What made the experience of listening to Dragonflight the most enjoyable?
I discovered this story when I was a teenager and then fell in love with the series. I have reread the stories many times and it was a real treat to listen to the story again. It felt like visiting old friends. I have purchased most of the original stories in the series in the audible format and thoroughly enjoyed them all.
Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?
F'Nor - he has always been one of my favorite characters.

Fantastic story, excellant narration
Revisado: 01-15-13
Where does A Light in the Window rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to since I joined Audible. Of course, the story is one of the best I have read in many years. Jan Karon, the author, has a way of writing that lets you step into the lives of the people of Mitford. I feel that I would recognize any of the characters if I met them on the street. This is a "slice of life" type story where you step into the lives of the characters and follow them through the months and / or years. Every character is vividly drawn.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Light in the Window?
I think that my favorite moments include Father Tim's first meeting with Dooley Barlow, the time spent with Miss Sadie, and his introduction to Puny.
What about John McDonough’s performance did you like?
John McDonough was able to narrate the story in such a way that you can enter the world of the story and forget the narrator. John's use of the native idioms and accents was right on.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Come enter the world of Mitford . . . you will never want to leave!
Any additional comments?
I am really looking forward to listening to the rest of the series. I read these books years ago and have been wanting to reread them for quite a while but have just been too busy. Audible provided the perfect way for me to do both.

Historia
Talia has always known that she isn't suited for the life her elders have chosen for her. As part of a small, conservative community, she's never been allowed beyond the boundaries of her father's lands. Her only window to the outside world has been the few books she's been allowed to read, but this only fuels her desire to know more.

Wonderful story, not so good narration
Revisado: 01-08-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This was the first Valdemar book and read and I loved it from the first page. I have read it numerous times and was really looking forward to listening to it again.
What other book might you compare Arrows of the Queen to and why?
Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator's New York / New Jersey accent really detracted from the story. The accent just really bugged me because it seemed out of place and that is deadly in a fantasy story. The accent kept pulling me away from the world of Valdemar. I really hope audible can get someone else to narrate the rest of the stories in this series. I don't know if I would buy the rest of the trilogy if the same narrator is used and that would be hard for me because I really want to listen to the rest of the books.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Absolutely.

Overall Good Story
Revisado: 08-30-12
What did you love best about The Number of the Beast?
I read this book years ago and thoroughly enjoyed listening to this excellent production. I had forgotten how confusing the story could be at times but the cast did a fantastic job and I really enjoyed listening to it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I am not sure who my favorite character is because they were all portrayed so well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, though I did listen to it over a few days.

Excellant story from a brilliant author
Revisado: 08-06-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys Anne McCaffrey's works. I remember reading this as a teenager and really connected to the emotions of the main character. Listening to the story drew me back in to the world of Pern and made me want to reread all of her stories, starting back at the beginning.
What did you like best about this story?
Seeing a different point of view than that of the the dragonriders. I really like the character of Menolly.
What does Sally Darling bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is a good narrator who brings the story to life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I really resonated with Menolly's feelings of loneliness and alienation from her friends and family for being talented and different.
