Historia
It’s been nine years since Quinn last worked with Mariko. That fateful job left him with a permanent sense of guilt, and her with a life forever changed. Now, their paths have crossed again. Not in a way Quinn would have hoped for, but at least in one that might allow him to make partial amends. To accomplish this, he will have to risk his career by ignoring the strict orders he’s been given. But a cleaner’s got to do what a cleaner’s got to do.

Brett Battles Strikes Again
Revisado: 07-15-24
Another great entry in the Jonathan Quinn series! In the last few books of the series, Quinn and his crew have taken on more espionage or intelligence type assignments. The plots are well-written and the pacing is excellent. If you're new to the Quinn series, you owe it to yourself to go back and listen to the entire series.
Plus, since this is an audiobook, I can't forget to mention the best narrator out there for action books, Scott Brick. His style adds so much to the book. He is able to get you to feel what the characters are feeling. He's wonderful at bringing life to the action scenes. And not to mention the various accents and languages an author may include.

Humor and Mystery
Revisado: 07-08-24
This was a wonderful story! it had the perfect amount of humor, but enough reality to make it enjoyable. I'm glad the story didn't go overboard with the nuttiness. The balance between the two main characters was perfect! And the narrator, Scott Aiello, did a great job with the voices!

Historia
As Charles Darwin suggested more than a century ago, the differences between animals and humans are of degree and not of kind. Not long ago, ethologists denied that animals had emotions or true intelligence. Now, we know that rats laugh when tickled, magpies mourn as they cover the departed with greenery, female whales travel thousands of miles for annual reunions with their gal pals, seals navigate by the stars, bears hum when happy, and crows slide down snowy rooftops for fun.

Animal Lovers Listen Up
Revisado: 06-13-24
Author Belinda Recio has brought together many examples of comparisons between animals and humans. Animals have friendships, laugh, play, have emotions, and are intelligent each in their own way. She also has information about scientific research that has been done in each of these areas so it's not just people saying they see something happen. Researchers have put a lot of time and effort in exploring this portion of the animal kingdom. Overall the book is well organized.
I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by actor and animal activist Hayden Panettiere. Her voice is pleasant and friendly and her passion for animals shows in her caring tone.

What do stories about humpback whales protecting a biologist from a shark, a pride of lions rescuing a girl from kidnappers, gorillas working together to dismantle poacher snares, a parrot warding off an attacker in a park, a chimpanzee consoling a human, and an elephant trying to rescue a baby rhino tell us about animal nature? And what might they suggest about our very own human nature?

Animal Heroes and Helpers
Revisado: 06-13-24
Author Belinda Recio has brought together a collection of stories of animals helping humans and other animals. I had heard of some of these instances, but most were new to me. She also has information about research that has been done regarding these specific events and about animal helpers in general. Overall it's a good presentation.
I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by actor and animal activist Hayden Panettiere. I'm sure this topic was close to her heart and it shows in her narration. Her voice is pleasant to listen to and she brings the written words of the author to life.

Historia
Is there a universal language of love, a "kinship with all life" that can open new horizons of experience? Example after example in this unique classic—from "Strongheart" the actor-dog to "Freddie" the fly—resounds with entertaining and inspiring proof that communication with animals is a wonderful, indisputable fact. All that is required is an attitude of openness, friendliness, humility, and a sense of humor to part the curtain and form bonds of real friendship.

Encounters with Wildlife
Revisado: 06-13-24
First of all, this book was released about 70 years ago, but it still is very relevant today and has aged pretty well. An encounter with a Native American tribal chief definitely sounds a bit dated, but generally the book sounds like it could be from recent times. Most of the author's thoughts about animals come from his time dog-sitting a famous movie star from 100 years ago. Before Hooch, before Benji, before Lassie, before Rin Tin Tin, there was Strongheart. He was a famous German Shepherd in the movies of the 1920s. Mr. Boone shows us that we have a "kinship with all life" as told in the title. He talks about his time with Strongheart, his experiences with worms, and his brief stint with Freddy the fly. I know this sounds weird, but it's actually a good book with a lot of great thoughts.
I actually listened to an audiobook of this book that was put out by Post Hypnotic Press a couple years ago. I really enjoyed actor Michael Puttonen's narration. I know this may sound weird, but he made the words sound modern and not "old timey". His speech was casual and tone was friendly. He really made this book sound contemporary.

Historia
Widely praised and winner of the 2023 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, this book illuminates why Lincoln’s unprecedented welcoming of African American men and women to the White House transformed the trajectory of race relations in the United States. From his 1862 meetings with Black Christian ministers, Lincoln began inviting African Americans of every background into his home, from ex-slaves from the Deep South to champions of abolitionism such as Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth.

New Look at the Lincoln White House
Revisado: 06-11-24
I really enjoyed this look at the life of Abraham Lincoln, particularly his views on slavery and race issues. It was set up as an analysis of his views - whether or not he was actually a white supremacist. I don't remember the author saying which was the case, but he left that up to the reader to decide. There are also some scenes of presidents before and after Lincoln with their views and actions. I enjoyed the large amount of first person sources included. It was very well researched and plotted out thoroughly.

That way. It’s such a simple request that Nate doesn’t think twice about turning down the path Liz suggests. But when he finds the body, he realizes he should have known better. After his best friend Jar discovers the woman’s true identity, she insists they need to investigate. Nate is not as sure. The police are on the case, after all, and if he and Jar intervene, they'd only get in the way.

Brett Battles is one of my favorite authors! These stories with Nate from the Jonathan Quinn series are a nice addition to that universe. If you haven't done so, please pick up the Jonathan Quinn series. You won't regret it. Also, since the legendary Stuart Woods passed away, Mr. Battles had taken over writing the Stone Barrington series and related works like the Teddy Fay series. Check those out too!

The story was really rushed. No time taken to develop anything. The storyline with the baby was haphazardly used. Will continue the series and hope this doesn't become the norm.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

I really loved the premise of this story. Basically, an extreme animal conservation story. As Mr. Scalzi says at the end, it was meant to be a fun ride and it definitely accomplishes that goal. Plus, Wil Wheaton proves why he's one of my favorite audiobook narrators.

Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Revisado: 04-18-24
This latest offering in the D.C. Smith series was wonderful! The story brought together all of the elements readers have come to expect from author Peter Grainger. Vivid characters and scenery. Great plot and pacing. And of course a touch of humor.
Plus, you can never go wrong with one of the best narrators in the business - Gildart Jackson.
