Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Just an unusually good, good read. I’ve listened to some really good books using Audible but this was one of the very best it just a surprise how intriguing it is.

Historia
Are leaders born or made? Where does ambition come from? How does adversity affect the growth of leadership? Does the man make the times or do the times make the man? In Leadership, Goodwin draws upon four of the presidents she has studied most closely - Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson (in civil rights) - to show how they first recognized leadership qualities within themselves, and were recognized by others as leaders.

The heroic humanity of the four presidents
Revisado: 12-25-24
The author tells an extraordinary series of stories in a deceptively ordinary way. I could listen again and I suspect again and hear something new each time.

Even in Africa the kindness and goodness that formed the culture has passed into another generation Our author brings itt charmingly forward. I saw a way of behaving that I can’t believe can be imitated even in a complicated technologically rated society.

Just a classy Bit of Brains
Revisado: 11-30-22
What an awful true story. “Im just guessing you won’t miss this little bit of your brain and the damage to the surrounding tissue will be of no consequence,”said pompous MD. And other doctors and thousands of patients bought in and made it standard practice almost world wide. Russia demurred. Watch out for reassuring voice and the adept application of electrodes!!

Historia
Elena Klovis was supposed to be her kingdom's Cinderella - until an accident of fate left her with a completely inappropriate prince! Determined not to remain with her stepfamily, Elena set out to get a new job - and ended up becoming the Fairy Godmother for the land. But "Breaking with Tradition" was no easy matter. True, she didn't have to sleep in the chimney, but she had to deal with arrogant, stuffed-shirt princes who kept trying to rise above their place in the tale.

Boom! One minute it was Ike and the man in the grey flannel suit, and the next minute it was time to "turn on, tune in, drop out". While Americans were walking on the moon, Americans were dying in Vietnam. Nothing was beyond question, and there were far fewer answers than before.

Long long newscast
Revisado: 04-18-22
The 60’s were indeed remarkable and there were lots and lots of incredible people. Brokaw reports on the seemingly endless Biggies and personalizes each a smidge. It’s just too much info for one sitting. One larger than life person and or episode after another tends to neutralize, for me, the magnitude of any and all.
