Historia
When horror author Thad McAlister began his latest novel, a tale rooted in the witch trials of centuries past, the words flowed effortlessly. The story poured forth, filling page after page with the most frightening character ever to crawl from his imagination. It was his greatest work, one that would guarantee him a position among the legends of the craft.

a tad mixed up in the telling.
Revisado: 02-03-16
the motives and placing of the characters was inexpertly done, otherwise the story was mildly entertaining. Could have been brilliant start to a series if worked on a little more. will not bother with others in series due to this.

Historia
Siler House has stood silent beneath Savannah’s moss-draped oaks for decades. Notoriously haunted, it has remained empty until college-bound Jess Perry and three of her peers gather to take part in a month-long study on the paranormal. Able to talk to ghosts, Jess quickly bonds with her fellow test subjects, who have their own “gifts.” One is possessed. Another just wants to forget. The third is a guy who knows how to turn up the August heat, not to mention Jess’s heart rate…when he’s not resurrecting the dead.

Historia
It was supposed to be a fresh start. A place for Steve and Melody Samson to begin their new life together away from the noise and crime of the city. However, their new home and an idyllic cottage nestled deep within the dense solitude of Oakwell forest - has a disturbing history, hidden for generations by the locals. There is evil in Hope House, and the cursed forest that surrounds it. Evil that has awakened after lying dormant for decades, and has terrifying plans for the young couple. Once you hear the whispers, it may already be too late.

this was a good book but the end was rushed
Revisado: 05-04-15
I found the story intriguing but quite a few mispronounciations (of English words) were a little jarring at times. otherwise the narrator was pleasant to listen to .
The end seemed a little rushed but I will re-listen to the final chapter again in case I missed something.

Uninteresting
Revisado: 02-20-15
Unfortunately I could have abandoned this book at any point, even mid- chapter, without the slightest curiosity about what I might have missed. Apart from the wildly rambling narrative there were a few instances of changing viewpoint within a scene in one of the early chapters. which is a fundamental no no. Very disappointing.

excellent. upbeat and encouraging. I could have listened for hours longer but as the narrator said, this would prevent me from sitting down to write. I will listen again periodically to take more of it in at the appropriate times in my writing.

the narrator had such an irritating drone !
Revisado: 03-14-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator - over emphasised almost every sentence. Made the listening experience ghastlier than the stories.
What didn’t you like about Cathy Dobson’s performance?
Everything. She was atrocious to listen to. If I had tried this as my first ever audio book experience it would have made me leery of trying another one.
Her over - emphasis was like chalk on a blackboard and really made it hard to enjoy the content. I will have to look for the actual book and read it myself as I could not bear a re-run via the ears.
Was Great Horror Stories worth the listening time?
Not with the assault on the ears. If it was possible to get the same audio book with a decent narrator I would be asking Audible for a swap.
Any additional comments?
I think I should be able to get a refund on this - I took to letting it run for 10 minutes while I fell asleep and have not heard one whole story of the collection - I have no desire to repeat the experience.
