This series is getting tired
Revisado: 07-31-24
Tired of suffering through "visits" from Reece's dead family, bored with the ranch life stuff over and over, tired of the endless "saving the world". Best part of this episode was the fight in the Chinese hotel. Rest of the book was predictable and anticlimactic.

1985. To twelve-year-old Mercedes, La Kastellana is home, an island with deep-rooted traditions untouched by the modern world. But this secluded paradise is upended with the arrival of multimillionaire Matthew Meade and his pampered young daughter, Tatiana. While the Meades lavishly spread unimaginable wealth around La Kastellana, the price Mercedes and the rest of the islanders will pay is more than they could ever have imagined.

Completely boring
Revisado: 10-20-23
The end was satisfying but it sure took a long time to get . The story and the narrator kept putting me to sleep. I have been a Marwood fan for a long time but this story would be much better abridged

Suckered!
Revisado: 02-20-21
I was intrigued by the plot, but the author fails to deliver. Oona is a completely depthless and boring creature, the reader has an immature, obnoxious voice, and I failed to make it past the middle of Part 2. If the book turns terrific at some later point in the story, well that's too bad, I don't have time to get there.
This book was Penny's Pick at Costco; she blew it this time!

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

So Great!!
Revisado: 02-05-20
Maybe the third time I've read it; still ranks as the best written portrayal of war and the everyday soldier's experiences and feelings ever. Should be required reading for everyone, then come back and read it again. Not sure how our "fearless leaders" could ever commit our young people to fight in far off countries over and over again if they would just take this book to heart.

Waste of a credit. Feels like it was written for an action series on TV. Poor writing, no character development, silly story, implausible outcome and obvious set up for a sequel.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.
