I loved the story, but there were a few obvious discrepancies in the story continuity that irritated me.

Revisado: 10-19-24
I was walking through the store while listening to this book on my earbuds, and found myself laughing out loud several times. I love the Avery Shaw books. Avery is such a character. I've read or listened to all the books in the series, so far.

Historia
My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

I love this story!
Revisado: 07-04-24
While I love everything about the story, I love the most that she used the two main characters from the short story Gray, included in Shifting Shadows, her collection of short stories. I love how Patty's characters have really grown and developed over the history of the series.

Historia
Back in college, Jane Lewis would have given anything to be like homecoming queen Connie Bryan. Instead she was just Plain Jane - overweight, frumpy, and painfully shy. That was then. Today, a lovely and confident Dr. Jane Lewis has a thriving psychotherapy practice, her own radio talk show, a beautiful old Louisiana mansion, and her affectionate, nutty dog, Olive, to keep her company. The only thing missing is someone to share her life.

An amateur writing attempt by a teenager with ADHD
Revisado: 08-28-23
I've read books by this author previously and really enjoyed them. I hate to say that this is one of the most amateurish attempts at a novel that I've seen in years. I've been seriously struggling to finish it.
The characters are unbelievable and unrealistic. The topic of campus rape should've been researched more as it was originally portrayed as the main topic in the story.
The main character's profession wasn't thoroughly researched either, nor was it portrayed accurately. The whole subplot about the dog training, and how retired police dogs are handled is ridiculous, inaccurate and misleading.
Mike and Jane have no chemistry as a couple, and are immature in their relationship.
The subplot about the ghost was just a waste of time and energy. As a matter of fact, there are so many useless subplots that the core story is almost lost. I feel like a teenager with ADHD wrote this book, which is really too bad because I know this author can write good literature.
I'm curious if this was one of her first amateur writing attempts that has been repackaged as a more recent novel because I notice that it is rather dated as far as computer research and cellphones are concerned.
Perhaps the publisher mislead her into thinking it would be a good idea to rerelease this story. If so, they really did her an injustice.

Gretel - yes, that Gretel - is now 35, very large, still living with her brother, Hans, and working as a private investigator. The small, sleepy town of Gesternstadt is shaken to its pretty foundations when the workshop of the local cart maker is burned to the ground, and a body is discovered in the ashes. It is Gretel who notices that the cadaver is missing a finger. At first she does not see this as significant, as her mind is fully focused on a new case.

A wonderful story!
Revisado: 09-10-22
The narrator was awesome! Her voice to me was like getting a hug from my mom when I most need it, warm and comforting.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and the characters. I really liked the ship mind, and his eccentricities.
I have to wonder why the author didn't credit the wonderful sci-fi writer Anne McCaffrey for her brain ship creation. She wrote several books about brain ships before this author was even born, and her work is well known. I also noticed other similarities in this story, to other sci-fi stories I've read over the years. I have to wonder if he even realizes that he often borrows concepts from the work of other writers?
I look forward to reading his future stories about this character, and her "world".

I LOVE IT!
Revisado: 08-16-22
I absolutely loved this story! The characters are realistically flawed just like all of us. I like how they each had to come to a understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and how they could make changes to improve their lives. I really liked it when Ari talked about how it was so different to be in Korea, around all the other people who looked like her, instead of being the one who stuck out like in Canada. I also like that there are no graphic sex scenes. I've listened to both of this author's audiobooks, and I would gladly listen to any others she puts out.

Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.
