Historia
What are the grand dynamics that drive the accumulation and distribution of capital? Questions about the long-term evolution of inequality, the concentration of wealth, and the prospects for economic growth lie at the heart of political economy. But satisfactory answers have been hard to find for lack of adequate data and clear guiding theories.

Picketty sure likes to call his theory a law
Revisado: 10-01-21
If you are, in any way, pragmatic, you may have consternation with the prose. Although clearly well versed, dude constantly reiterated "law" that is clearly empirically untrue.
Unfortunately, I am unable to attribute the terribly constructed formula to either self gratification or general francophilia.
Overall, I personally recommend any listeners to disregard any "R*g=nonsense". I truly appreciate the attempt, but this book will only make you stupid, globally.

Historia
Debauched, divorced, and courting death, Billy Ray Schafer is a comedian who has forgotten how to laugh. Over the course of seven spun-out days across the American Southwest, he travels from from hell gig to hell gig in search of a reason to keep living in this bleak and violent glimpse into the psyche of a thoroughly ruined man. Ex-inmate, ex-husband, ex-father - comedian is the only title Schafer has left. Trapped in the wreckage of his wasted career, Billy Ray knows the answer to the question: What happens when the opportunity doesn't come - or worse - it comes and goes?

Wow!
Revisado: 04-03-21
Some of the introductions were odd, but they're comedians and want credit.
The tale has allowed me a greater appreciation for standup while elucidating a self-introspection I didn't think I needed.
I have recommended this audiobook to all of my closest friends due to the positive impact it has on me. I truly hope anyone reading these words receives similar benefit.
Simply, wow!

Although I had read it years ago, this amazing story hit harder today. Whether you are hearing from the perspective of an Aristotelean ethicist, or family person, you will gain insight into things in your life that have gone unacknowledged. Highest recommendation!

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

I recommend, but...
Revisado: 07-29-20
The topic will be inaccessible to the general public. The perspective is entirely unrelatable. I was impressed with the party differentiation including the Libertarian point of view. Generally, many interesting studies and quotes piqued genuine curiosity - but, too broad of a brush was used per the nature of the narrative.

Historia
America has been the world leader in generating new mental health treatments and modern theories of the human psyche. We export our psychopharmaceuticals packaged with the certainty that our biomedical knowledge will relieve the suffering and stigma of mental illness. We categorize disorders, thereby defining mental illness and health, and then parade these seemingly scientific certainties in front of the world.

Historia
This urgent and eye-opening book makes the case that protecting humanity's future is the central challenge of our time. If all goes well, human history is just beginning. Our species could survive for billions of years - enough time to end disease, poverty, and injustice, and to flourish in ways unimaginable today. But this vast future is at risk. With the advent of nuclear weapons, humanity entered a new age, where we face existential catastrophes - those from which we could never come back.

Through thoroughly expressed conceptual explanation, Ord paints a picture both terrifying and optimistic. I came away much more aware, yet viewing that awareness with absolute belief that the human experience can face those challenges effectively.

"The Wife" once exchanged love letters with her husband, coyly postmarked the Dept. of Speculation, their code name for all the uncertainty that inheres in life and in the strangely fluid confines of a long relationship. As they confront an array of common catastrophes - the arrival of a child and, later, a lover - the Wife puzzles over the mysteries of intimacy, trust, faith, knowledge, and romantic love.

So, so good! Worth every cent and second of your time. I'm not generally a fan of author narration, but the captivating tone would absolutely be diminished otherwise. I can't remember a conversation with family, friend, or colleague wherein I haven't brought up or recommended this excellent contribution to my awareness. Highly recommend! Thank you, David Sinclair, for your amazing career and efforts!

Historia
In the mid-1970s, scientists began using DNA sequences to reexamine the history of all life. Perhaps the most startling discovery to come out of this new field is horizontal gene transfer (HGT), or the movement of genes across species lines. For instance, we now know that roughly eight percent of the human genome arrived not through traditional inheritance from directly ancestral forms, but sideways by viral infection - a type of HGT. In The Tangled Tree David Quammen chronicles these discoveries through the lives of the researchers who made them.
