Historia
More than 40 years after it ended, the Vietnam War continues to haunt our country. We still argue over why we were there, whether we could have won, and who was right and wrong in their response to the conflict. When the war divided the country, it created deep political fault lines that continue to divide us today. Now, continuing in the tradition of their critically acclaimed collaborations, the authors draw on dozens and dozens of interviews in America and Vietnam to give us the perspectives of people involved at all levels of the war.

Historia
Slamming the door on the hellscape of 1980s Belfast, Detective Inspector Sean Duffy hopes that the 1990s are going to be better for him and the people of Northern Ireland. As a Catholic cop in the mainly Protestant RUC he still has a target on his back, and with a steady girlfriend and a child the stakes couldn’t be higher. After handling a mercurial triple agent and surviving the riots and bombings and assassination attempts, all Duffy wants to do now is live. But in his final days in charge of Carrickfergus CID, a missing persons report captures his attention.

Real Characters in a real environment
Revisado: 01-07-24
Mr McKinty has done it again. Why more people don’t follow Sean Duffy and his team at RUC is a mystery to me. The dialogue, the immediacy of the narrative and the wonderful narration by Gerard Doyle is a five star experience. My only regret is having to wait 5 years!

Without Lorraine, her colleagues struggle on, as the hunt for a nightmare serial killer spirals into an all-out search for a missing witness: a victim who escaped. But Lorraine Page is about to be brought right back into that world again....

Painful
Revisado: 01-28-22
The story would have been tolerable, but the narrator made it painful. You know what to expect with Lynda La Plante. Nothing too cerebral, an escapist pot boiler. I dare say if I were reading rather than listening, I would have read the whole trilogy, but this is just too hard to listen to. I’ve been listening to audiobooks for many years and now have several hundred in my library, but I can honestly say that this is the worst narration I’ve heard and won’t be listening to the other books, no matter how enticing the sample (which it wasn’t). This is a narrator who makes children sound like cartoon characters and “grizzled” police sergeants sound like they’re in a sitcom - and don’t get me started on the topic of volume control!
In a word - dreadful.

Revisado: 11-04-21
I cannot get enough of these stories. They are simple but thorough in their reasoning and procedural descriptions. The are full of humour and the characters are always fully developed.
Up there with Ian Rankin and Adrian McKinty.

Historia
Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Very poor

Poorly written pot boiler. I could not find a single redeeming feature. A very amateur piece of writing which relies on every cliche imaginable with not one likeable character.

Too much sex!
Revisado: 09-28-20
I’m sure the author is a very capable writer when it comes to the topic of intimate romance, however if that was what I was looking for I would have looked under Erotica. I wasn’t expecting to find so many mind-numbingly descriptive passages in a crime thriller. It did nothing to enhance the storyline at all.
A disappointment.

Sucked into the story by the open post apocalyptic chapters which promised so much and delivered nothing but childish misanthropic claptrap.

Romantic drivel

I tried twice to get into this, but the melodramatic dialogue , the granite jawed handsome detective and the “cold and stormy night” prose was too much for me.

The new Kings Lake Central murder squad is about to spend its first morning on team-building exercises and reviewing cold cases when the call comes in that the body of one of the city's rough sleepers has been found in a shop doorway. It happens, someone says, he isn't the first to die on the streets and he won't be the last, but the story the new team begins to uncover is far from routine.

Revisado: 05-03-20
I can’t think why you did this, Mr Grainger. As always your excellent prose and crafting of characters, new and old, together with the wonderful delivery of Gildart Jackson, made the story a delightful “read”. Until...
What happened, did you run out of puff?
I find it hard to imagine that you planned this from the moment you picked up your figurative pen.
Are we all really now expected to wait another 12 months?

As usual an excellently written and narrated story. As topical, believable and meaningful as The Spy Who Came in from the Cold was in 1963.
