Beware of narration…
Revisado: 12-14-22
As has been stated in every review, the narration of this book is poor (at best). The “odd” pronunciation of proper names as well as common words detracts significantly from the understanding of the text. It took me several minutes of rewinding, listening carefully and finally context to figure out that “Anna-Bess” was referring to the Egyptian god Anubis ( just one of many frustrations).
At one point the narrative places Pharaoh Rameses II in the second century BCE, I fervently hope this is an error in narration rather than an oversight by the authors.
I did manage to stick it out to the end, and I’m certainly glad I did. Some of the conclusions of the authors regarding the story of succession (my no means settled by scholars) was truly intriguing, and I confess some of it I’d never considered.
All in all I would have enjoyed print edition more.

Hold out for unabridged!
Revisado: 07-18-13
Would you try another book from Elizabeth Peters and/or Barbara Rosenblat?
I LOVE the Peabody series (I even have a cat named Peabody). I'm an anthropologist, and enjoy the reality of the period brought out in the books. Peters also allows an insight into the character of some of the famous Egyptologists of the time, like Howard Carter.
If you’ve listened to books by Elizabeth Peters before, how does this one compare?
I've listened to all the previous books in the series, this one fell short by a long shot! I even went back to my paperback copy of this book to re-read so I could flesh out the plot and characters.
What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?
LOVE it! Rosenblat really IS Peabody for me.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lord of the Silent?
If I could play editor, I wouldn't settle for the abridged version. Hold out for the real thing.
I'll read the next two in paperback so I don't miss anything, then go for the remaining unabridged books.
