Anybody who loves true crime and the study of a demented mind needs to listen. The narrator was perfect and it was well written. I was introduced by the Netflix show but this book made me a true fan of Mr. Douglas’

Not for the squeamish. You definitely have to enjoy this book with all of your decencies (and some common sense) shoved away. Either this is a really good story or I’m truly disturbed. Two things can be true, I suppose.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Historia
Ollie and Caro Harcourt are moving house with their 12-year-old daughter Jade. Ollie is desperate to leave the city. Caro is less sure. Then they view Cold Hill House, a dilapidated rural mansion, and fall instantly in love. It's expensive, but with its space, seclusion, and huge grounds, it seems like a brilliant idea. That is, until they arrive. It soon becomes apparent that they are not alone. A spectral woman appears on screens and walks the corridors, vanishing before she can be challenged.

Whew…
Revisado: 05-19-24
I had to skip through one scene. It may not have even been as bad as my imagination thought it would be. But knowing Mr. Cutter, it was. Haha! This definitely had twist along the way that I didn’t see coming. The last 2 endings of his books have left me unsatisfied, but only based on opinion which isn’t fair to take away a star. But this time I really felt like it didn’t give me enough. Overall, highly recommend!

Historia
From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

Slow start but hang in there…
Revisado: 04-22-24
Until about chapter 35 or so. I didn’t care about the overuse of certain words like other reviewers, but I kinda hated the main character. And I felt guilty for it, like the author didn’t mean to make her so annoying so I got it wrong. I wish I would have been rooting for her, would have made the story more enjoyable. But good story overall.
